Recruited over Guarantano yet? Is he the worst power 5 QB to ever be starter 3 straight years? Hard to think of someone worse...

Jarrett Lee/Jordan Jefferson. Though they might have done better with a decent offensive staff

Mauer is injured and has an off the field issue
Bailey is a true freshman with an abbreviated offseason
Salter is a 4* commit for 2021
K Hill was a 4* transfer from Maryland that sat last year and transferred this year.
J Holiday has moved from QB to WR
Honestly if we had a regular offseason I was expecting Gitmo to transfer out and see Hill compete in an open competition.

I feel like Guarantano has been at Tennessee since 2014.

He has....Harrison Bailey out of Marrietta Ga. Who had 2 days of Spring practice before they shut it down and missed 2 weeks of Fall camp due to being in contact tracing isolation so he's not ready yet. Maurer is a better QB but stays on the injury list and spent most of the second half of last season on the concussion list.
Hopefully Gitmo will be better this season having been in Chaney's system for 2 years. Never been a fan of Gitmo but he's had 4 different OC's in his 5 years at UT.

I'll name some 3+ year starters that were pretty unmemorable over the past 30 years or so. I'll try to do one from each team
Brandon Cox - Auburn
Kellen Mond - A&M
Steven Garcia - USC
Andrew Zow - Alabama
Greg Zoleman - Vandy
Romaro Miller - Ole Miss
Kevin Fant - State
Doug Johnson - Florida (best I could come up with as al of their 3+ year starters have been pretty good in this time frame)
Casey Dick - Arkansas
Jamie Howard - LSU
Quincy Carter - UGA
Missouri - James Franklin?
Kentucky doesn't really have anyone that is even arguable the past 30 years. The only options for 3+ year starters are Lorenzon, Couch, and Woodson, all being great college players.

Guarantano doesnt turn the ball over that much and has some moments where he seems like he isnt that bad. It all seems to stem from his absofrickinglute refusal to throw the ball on time. He is notorious for dropping back with no defenders near him and a wide receiver running wide open down the field and him waiting about 3 seconds to late and throwing a rainbow where our Wide receiver has to have a jump ball drill against a DB that has made up all the ground by the time the ball arrives. Fortunately they won alot with calloway and jennings. The dude just hardly ever throws a nice pass to a receiver in stride downfield.

sounds like this guy

He's the worse D1 QB I've ever seen throwing a WR open...He thinks and doesn't react until it's too late. I think a lot of his issues are he's FK'ed up so many times now he's afraid he'll FK'ed up.

James Franklin was a pretty good QB.

JG drives me crazy but he isn't close to the worst. He's not even in the bottom of the SEC.

Bailey's EE was fricked by Covid and then in the Fall he got quarantined because of contact tracing. Shrout is the likely back up for now. Maurer has been battling a hamstring injury.

JG got sat several times and didn't start more than one game. We had 4 different QBs start games last season, including Jennings.

That was the only guess I could make because y'all don't have a whole lot of options either, but his numbers aren't very dissimilar from Guarantano's:
391 comp. 642 att. 60.9% 5062 yards 32 TDs 13 INTs 139.5 rat

If he didnt want him as the QB, he wouldn't be the QB. Its that simple. Covid didnt change that. What a weak arse cop out by smokey one.

Covid changed a metric ton when it came to Harrison's chance of getting ready to play. A true frosh can't miss his EE chance and half of fall practice and expect to challenge.
JG is starting because the coaches are giving him a chance to be something more than a practice warrior but they haven't hesitated to bench him in the past and won't hesitate this year either, esp. with both Shrout and Maurer (whenever he heals) having game experience and another year in the system.

Pruitt wasn’t gonna start a true freshman, who doesn’t have arik Gilbert, over an experienced senior. Covid didn’t change that.
Posted on 9/25/20 at 3:11 pm to djsdawg
He doesn't need Gilbert. He has Hyatt, Palmer, Wideman, Johnson and more. Acting like Covid had no effect on an EE that didn't get to EE and who has quarantined half the fall is silly af. JG was always the frontrunner and would've been difficult to unseat but it was far from impossible. He was unseated multiple times last season by QBs far less polished than Bailey.
