No, all this does is likely eliminate a SEC team from the playoffs.

Honestly, I don't really care about that.

I'm more worried about adding another conference game causing teams to drop interesting OOC games than it impacting which teams make the playoff.

If games like UGA/Clemson, A&M/ND or LSU/USC get dropped in order to add another conference game, I think that's a loss overall. If we add a conference game and don't lose those interesting OOC matchups, it's a win.

So it’s a random guess…like throwing darts against a wall listing all teams.

SEC championship use to provide SEC teams with an extra game to get into the 2 slotted National Title game and then the 4 Slotted Playoff.

Now it’s solely a hindrance in my opinion.

There is no debate, 5 seed would be better.

Do you know how I knew 5th seed was the best? When I heard the 5th place seed was the highest placing Notre Dame can ever have.

Conference championships aren't about who's the best team in the nation. It's about who navigated the conference schedule the best.

Never made that connection. But to be highly ranked in the polls means you DID have a successful season.

ANY method that doesn't have a full round robin cannot fairly figure out who the best two teams are in a conference, regardless of if it uses divisions or not. Hell, even a round robin doesn't do that unless all the games are played a neutral site. Playing a team on the road and at home is not the same difficulty.

I agree. However, to shrink conference sizes means the # of conferences increases (which I’ve not heard many, if any, advocate for). Then HOW are the p/o impacted with these groups?

The reality is the non-divisional setup is better. It will ensure that the teams with the best conference records play. If there's a tie from one of those spots, the team that goes will have the same conference record.

That’s a matter of personal judgement. It all determines on who plays whom & how that team performs. & the factor of common opponents…which several posts point out that there aren’t many, if any, that teams tied ALL share. Take, for example, somebody has Ky.,Vandy, Miss., MSU (which there’s some W’s there) compared to a team that has Ala., UGA, TA&M, LSU on their schedule. That 2nd team won’t have as good a record as the 1st team (who would be higher in the standings). Does that mean the 1st team is a better team & deserves a chance in the SECCG?
