I’m talking long-term here. There is clearly a poison tree here somewhere, because the program feels like it’s been one step forward and two steps back getting gradually worse for basically 20 years. That’s not just a couple of bad hires, there’s something toxic culturally there.

How does it get fixed? I was in Tennessee this weekend and it almost feels like the region has quit on Tennessee football. No car flags, no outside decorations and a very small amount of people in orange shirts walking around on gameday (granted, it wasn’t like I was in Knoxville). If Jeremy Pruitt can’t at least put a respectable 7-6, 8-5 football team on the field in the magic year 2, where do they turn?

I hate Tennessee, but it’s reaching a point that’s so absurd its fascinating.

All you morons hoping Tennessee turns it around must have forgotten their fan base from the late 90s.

I’m not hoping, I’m just curious. It seems like it shouldn’t be this hard to stop getting worse.

Still light years better than the Spurrier era Florida fans.

Just imagine instead of auburn firing chizik after the 0-8 season we made him AD. The answer is leadership and UT has none. Need to clean house at the booster level or hope those boosters die soon. That’s about it.

LSU hired Nick Saban to get them out of the 90s shite show. They should try something like that.

They need a core group of competent people to step in and make consistently good decisions. It’s the same as any broken institutional culture.

That’s way easier said than done, obviously.

Tell the Haslams, Clay Travis, and Fulmer to frick right on off.

Have the football team leave the conference for about 5 years.

Load up on games that are going to pack out Nayland (ND, Clemson, Va Tech, SEC teams can still play them as an OOC game). Increase ticket prices.

Take the profit and invest it back into the program, to include coaches.

UTK needs a hard reset, and between Alabama, Clemson, and UGA that isn't going to happen with any half arse measures like hiring an up and coming G5 coach or flavor of the month coordinator.

With Pruitt we get out of this.

Week 1 they fricked up, they were overlooking a team they should have steamrolled, shite happens whatever. Week 2 was a different team, Guarantano is just fricking trash. Chaney made some odd calls, the final 4th and 1 play going on an end around, that was run a few plays before and would have been blown up for a 5 yard loss if not for a blatant hold.

Regardless though Pruitt is recruiting who he needs to and the Freshman have been the only bright light so far this season, besides Chandler.

If he can somehow keep the recruiting class he has going together we should be decent going forward

Mark D'Antonio? He wouldn't leave Mich St for his alma mater, he's not leaving up there for UTk.

Step 1. Don't hire a coach because Clay Travis does/does not want you to.
