I thought they were the best coached team we played all year. He gets more out of his talent than any other coach in the league. How does a guy like that, at his age, get overlooked for so many years by all the P5 schools?

He nearly got A&M the death penalty.

Texas A&M`s men`s basketball program was placed on two years` probation Monday by the NCAA Committee on Infractions for major violations under former coach Kermit Davis Jr. Texas A&M, which was put on probation in 1988 for rules violations, escaped the NCAA`s so-called ''death penalty.''

University officials contended that Davis and assistant coach Fletcher Cockrell furnished false or misleading information seven times in the course of a school investigation about recruitment of Syracuse transfer Tony Scott and talent scout Rob Johnson. The allegations against A&M included illegal travel and lodging inducements.

Skeletons in the closet. His own alma mater (MSU) passed over him a couple of times.
Heavy NCAA issues. That's why he was stuck at MTSU for so long. Hopefully he's straightened out now. If so, we'll hire him away from Ole Miss if we need a new coach.

Because of his insane issues with the NCAA probably

I don't know if he gets more out them than Barnes does (our current roster is a group of 3 stars) but he's a damned good coach who is very deserving of recognition.

Had a couple crootin' violations. Wish we'd have picked him up though. He's a great coach and was basically begging for the job in Starkville.

Outside of the aforementioned issues at A&M, his first 10 seasons at MTSU they did not make the tournament. His first 9 seasons they never even won 20+ games there.
In 2011-12 he won 27 games, in 2012-13 they made the NCAAT for the first time under Kermit, then it was pretty much winning from there.
Pretty interesting turn of events at MTSU looking at the record...

Kermit's a good guy and a fine coach. Look at the numbers and he's pretty good but not special.
Look at this year: He had OM rolling the first time through the league. Then other teams got film and Om started struggling. It's the same with any newcomer in sport.
