How did the Hogs roster get so depleted?

What happened with Bert and recruiting? Did he just give up the last couple of years?

Yes, and then he started giving too many walk ons schollies, which killed future recruiting. I think he saw the writing on the wall and sabotaged the Hogs.

Partly its because Bert kept missing out on high profile recruits. He landed some but he whiffed on most of them.
Like a lot of gamblers he'd double down and try even harder to land one. He kept pursuing players who were never going to come to Arkansas and didn't spend his time signing those that would be happy to play here. So his recruiting rankings were fairly good, because he'd sign a handful of highly rated players. But he wasn't signing those mid-tier players that everyone but Alabama and Georgia needs to build a team.
Him and his staff were, almost entirely, Midwestern guys without a lot of ties to the South. That didn't help. Bert also went out of his way to antagonize Texas High School coaches which was a disaster.
Add it all together and toss in a healthy dose of a defeatist attitude and you have the current Razorback team. We're going to have graduate and replace players for a while to get out of this fix.

Hog fans claimed Bielema recruited well while he was there. Now that their new coach could actually be worse than Bielema, they're claiming his recruiting was sub par.

From a distance.....I would say this is huge. Considering the system Bert ran as opposed to what Morris wants to run, couldn't be any more polar opposite. Gonna take a few classes to get the players needed for the system. Will be tough this year and next. How patient will the hog fans be?

They're already up in arms but the real fans know this will take a roster turn over. He could still suck but I'll wait to form judgement until then.

System fit may be an issue, but not learning the system. Spread is about as easy to teach as there is. I really think that the Allen brothers at QB covered up a lot of Bert's talent shortcomings, and it appears that Arkansas is out of Allen brothers.

Bert was too busy getting drunk and hopping on the wife... although I don't blame him, Jen is pretty hot.

Everyone knew he’d have to turn the roster over. No one expected the team to be this bad though.
