Kid was hiding in plain sight in the middle of South Carolina.

Low rated recruit that blossoms at this level. Happens from time to time.

Only got a scholarship offer after a Murray State coach saw him in a pickup game while the coach was trying to find a snack

What is this supposed to mean?

His game could easily translate to the NBA.

That nobody really knew what he was until he got to this level. Guys slip through the cracks and become mid-major world beaters and grow into top level NBA prospects from time to time. Not that hard to grasp.

I mean -- Steph Curry went to Davidson. How did he get away from Ohio State? Michigan? Michigan State? Etc.

Some guys are just late bloomers.

Well he was from Charlotte, so the real question is how did he get away from the ACC schools, but he's an even better example. He was frickin Dell Curry's kid. Everybody knew who he was. He still ended up at Davidson.

Kids grow, kids mature, kids get better, etc.

That he simply bloomed late.

Obviously not an NBA player, but same thing happened with Chris Lofton.

Ah I thought he was from Ohio. But it actually works better that he's from NC.

Yea he grew up in Charlotte while his dad was with the Hornets.

Virginia Tech, the school at which his father was possibly the greatest player ever, offered him a sympathy walk-on spot. Insane. But, most of it was because he was so small and I think played little private school ball.

Didn't know he was from South Carolina. Imagine if the Cocks could keep their instate talent. Morant and Zion on the same team

Great point - the #1 and #2 picks are both from the state of South Carolina and went to high school 150 miles apart. Wow.

Scouts miss prospects all the time.

Some kids develop later.

Local schools could be looking for something else and not realize the talent nearby.

Drew Brees comes to mind.

Happens in football recruiting too, but there are so many more analysts who recruit football so they’re more likely to get spotted.

Devonte Schuler for Ole Miss and Tevin Mack for Alabama are both from Columbia.

Bama has another 4 star guy from Columbia signed.

TN has a high level recruit from Ft Mill and a top player signed from Charleston.

SC has so much potential but so much fail with instate recruiting.

SEC schools don't pay more than Murray State.
