Alabama has been a trainwreck since the Florida game and was a trainwreck for the 1st half in Nashville (and kind of the 2nd).
How then frick did you lose that game? Honestly, they should consider stripping that COTY award from Kermit just for that.

It was pretty flabbergasting tbh
We played the worst half of basketball I’ve ever seen an Ole Miss team play in my lifetime. Our usual prime duo could not hit a shot, and what truly did us in was Terrence Davis’ terrible passes/decision making. He turned it over with horrible floater passes at least 5 times in the 2nd half.
It’s not like Alabama even played good really either. Just did enough to prevail over our ineptitude. Bizarre game

Tyree was either riding too high after the post season awards or his gf broke up with him before the game. And Bama’s bigs are the worst matchup on the planet for us. We got out rebounded 50-30 and got to the line 4 times. Settled for shots and didn’t hit them. It’s pretty simple. We are a pretty flawed team.

Kermit did such a good job this year with limited options versatility wise in a league with all sorts of different types of teams.

Indeed. And any OM fan that isn’t extremely pleased with this season is a fool. We are so terribly outmatched in the paint by virtually every team we play it’s a joke. We have 3 guards who are good and when all 3 are clicking it is hard for nearly any team to beat us simply because there’s not much anyone can do to shut them down when they are draining 3s contested or not.
Davis either carries us or kills us and it’s basically a coin flip on any given night. Hard to get mad at him with all the good he does but it’s frustrating for sure.

COTY doesn’t mean much these days. Kermit looks like a good coach but overall SEC resume is merely above average. Why the SEC avoids repeat awards is beyond me. Barnes or Calipari should’ve received it.

We don’t match up well at all against Alabama this year. And we had the worst 2nd half of the season.

I don't think you know how bad this Ole Miss team really is...They in no way should have have swept Auburn, beat State @ State, beat Baylor, etc.
Kermit defintiley deserved COTY honors. He took a team to an 8 seed that would have probably been NIT at best with most coaches.

The only reason he got it is we were a consensus pick for last place in the SEC and he somehow found a way to make chicken shite into chicken salad with limited resources.
I don’t really give a shite whether he deserved the award or got it or not. But he is definitely a good coach and anyone who has been watching Ole Miss basketball for the past few years was blown away by the change in discipline. It’s amazing to watch the 1-3-1 we run with our limited size cause so many turnovers and be so effective. Also having a team average free throw percentage hovering around 80% speaks for itself as far as discipline.
I had been telling people for years we should hire him because we play MTSU nearly every season and I was alway extremely impressed with his teams. I was and am thrilled with the hire.

It was a nice surprise but tbe team still finished 10-8 in the SEC and 7th in the SEC standings and those results are middle of the pack for such an exclusive award. He turned a hopeless Ole Miss team competitive, sure, so he’s worth the consideration against the other candidates. Guess my problem is previous winners are usually ignored as if it’s merely a one time welcome to tbe party invite. Oh well, doubt Barnes cared anyway.
Bruce should have won it last year but it was robbed from him. He was picked 14th as well, clinched a share of tbe regular season SEC championship, all with two players ineligible.

An offense dependent on stellar guard play and three point shooting. A 1-3-1 half court trap defense. 20+ wins and .500 in league play.

I think the vast majority of Ole Miss basketball fans were excited for Kermit and the program for a couple days and that’s about it. It’s not like we wanted T-shirts printed and banners hung. You congratulate the guy for a job well done and move on. I betcha he has.
