OK guys. Serious question. I really want to know if this happened anywhere else.

This season the NCAA started the new redshirt rule allowing for unlimited snaps in up to 4 games and the redshirt could be kept.

Apparently someone on Auburns staff has a difficult time counting to 5. Yesterday yet another top 10 (position rankings) player left Auburn because they botched Asa Martin's redshirt.

I want to know if this happened ANYWHERE else. I've seen people say its a new rule and surely it happened elsewhere. I find the excuses some will make for Gus some of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen.

So I want to know if it actually happened anywhere else? Any school from any conference?

I’m sure it happened somewhere but nowhere as big as Auburn:

Really, I did not know that. I wondered what they were talking about with Martin

Why didn't the kid speak up? Surely he knew how many games he had played in.

Doesn't excuse the error by the coaching staff though.

perhaps they did know and played him so that he wouldn't transfer to play elsewhere next season.

If that hasn't happened anywhere else, I am sure it will.

Seems pretty weird that y’all can’t keep track of something so simple.

I haven’t heard of it anywhere else

Yeah this was my thought as well. I actually said it may have happened at some other school but I guarantee it didn't happen at any other top 15 all-time School

But I genuinely want to know if it even happened anywhere else. I have a hard time believing it actually did...

I agree with you. Ultimately, it's the coaches responsibility, but you think the player would’ve said something.

ETA: ouch after reading that article, they just lied to him. Not a good look at all.

See above link. Its tells the entire story. His family told them beforehand and after the fact. Its all in there. Direct quotes from Asa's mother.

Not to pile on to Auburn's troubles, but the fact that that happened is so unbelievably stupid. It is also the epitome of Gus Malzahn as a head coach. It is so obvious when you watch Auburn play that Malzahn doesn't care about the details that successful coaches stress.

Proving their incompetence. That's about it.

Gus is a lame duck. He can't even get anyone to become his OC. The RB coach at USCe turned him down... We are either gonna have to promote a terrible position coach, Gus will be the OC, or he will have to pull another high school coach in as his OC.

The Malzahn/Auburn relationship is fractured. And after a probable 2-4 start next season its just gonna get worse.

No worries man. When criticism is warranted, its warranted. Rivalries don't even matter when it comes to criticizing this gross negligence

If he were to transfer the NCAA should give him a mulligan on this year and count it as a RS.

He did yesterday.

If I were his family, I'd petition the NCAA to get the year back. I mean he can transfer and redshirt next year while he sits out and have 3 years to play.

Also if I were him, I'd transfer to Bama or UGA and make sure I had career days vs Auburn.

They should at least give him a hardship and let him be immediately eligible

I wish I had a rivals or a 247 account so I could post this question on a national board. I just don't see it happening anywhere else.
