Stats before Huepel
Hooker- 2018-2020
197-312, 63%, 2894 yards, 22TD, 7int, 15 rush TD’s.

Tillman- 2018-2020
8rec 124 yards 2 TD

Hyatt- 2020
20rec 276 yards 2TD

McCoy- 2020
21rec 236 yards 0TD’s

Stats under Heupel
Hooker- 2021-2022
435-631, 68.9%, 6,080yds, 58Td’s, 5ints, 10 rush TD’s.

Tillman- 2021-2022
101rec 1,498 yards 15TD’s

Hyatt- 2021-2022
88rec 1,493 yards 17TD’s

McCoy- 2022
52rec 667 yards 4 TD’s

UT returns its core players back and got some key transfers in the portal to help replace Tillman, and Hyatt. And UT is in good hands with Milton at QB, just look at the Clemson game and you will see how far he has come in last 2 years. UT will compete again as one of the top teams in the SEC next year. Say what you want about Heupel, but there is no denying he isn’t a hell of coach.

If Vols learn how to play defense, they're going to be tough for everyone.

If they can build on the defense from the Clemson game I like the Vols chances. But when had the worse pass defense country you can only go up.

Milton has issues. But that is what the offseason is designed to address. Physically, he is as good as it gets.

That is absolutely the wrong attitude.

If you are recruiting better, then it isn't getting better.

I don't follow the Tennessee recruiting.

It’s not all about the 11 you run out on the field it’s the attrition of injuries and who the backups are .. you have to
Have depth and a lot of it , going to a 12 team playoff will show even more the haves to have nots .

If you didn't fire Martinez, 2022 was your ceiling

UGA has 6 weeks between true road games at Auburn and Knoxville (going to Vandy during that stretch but Nashville ain't really a road game) next season with the UT game coming the next to the last game of the season for UGA. That is going to be a TOUGH road trip for UGA IF UT is undefeated or has one loss at that point in the season. Ought to be a good one....

So if you are addressing the issue via a recruiting, it will not get better?

And I agree, you don’t follow recruiting at all.

Who is the core if these two and Hooker are gone?

Yes, when you lose your best three players, it is hard to claim that your core players are returning

Clemson wasn’t exactly an offensive juggernaught this year. The issue with uptempo offenses is the negative effect on the defense. So you can’t evaluate offense and defense in a vacuum but rather as complementary pieces.

They wasn’t near the players they was prior to Heupel. What did they do before a Heupel. We will be just fine.

I agree that you will have a good team next year, as Heupel is a good coach. My point is that you cannot claim your core players are returning when your three best players are leaving.

Hopefully Milton fine tunes his passing and our back up receivers get better incase we have some injuries.
Defense will be what I am most curious to see improved.
If we are going to be able to compete with Ga and Bama we really need lots of depth.

Offense
3 OL returning.
Top 3 running backs- #3 in country in rushing TD’s.
McCoy, White, and Keaton at WR. Added Thornton from Oregon.
Warren returning back at TE
Milton at QB- was starter prior to Hooker. Milton gets hurt, and Hooker takes over.

Returning Defense
DL- Tyler Baron, Omari Thomas, Da’Jon Terry, Bryson Eason, Joshua Joseph,
LB- Beasley, Herring, James Pearce, Caleb Perry.
DB’s- Dee Williams, McClough, Burrell, Turrantine, Rucker, Slaughter.

Added from Portal
Pili- LB- From BYU
Thornton- WR- From Oregon
Jordan Phillips- DL- From Maryland
John Campbell- OL- From Miami
Katie- OL- From Texas
Norman Lott- DL- Arizona State
Castles- TE-
Cambell- K- was Indiana Starting kicker

Heupel will do to Thornton what he done with Tillman and Hyatt. And remember Hooker wasn’t the Hooker he turned into till he played under Heupel.
