Actually if UGA went back to the way they were...then he wasnt a program changing player.

So they WERE bad, then were probably the best program in the nation from 80-82, then went back to being average. Isn't that the very definition of being a program changer? He literally changed the program when he was here.

Better athlete in college - Bo

Better RB in college - Herschel

A winning, friendly, proactive personality - Bo

All other personalities - Herschel

My def. would be more that he changed the program to teh point that it was different after he left for years.

AU went on a serious run in the 80s of SECC after Bo and to me that is a program change.

Both historically great RBs, along with guys like Barry Sanders, Tony Dorsett, and Earl Campbell.

But, having seen them both play, Herschel was the better every-down running back and Bo was the better big-play, break-away running back.

Herschel had more yards and more TD but had WAY more carries to do it.

Bo averaged a yard more per carry and scored more often on average (rushing attempts per TD).

Herschel was a pedestrian NFL running back.

Bo was a dominating, break-away NFL running back until he got hurt.

I'm biased, but damn right Bo has a slight edge over Herschel. I was honored to watch both though.

This had less to do with Bo and more to do with the case of envelopes that Wayne Hall went through every month. ;)

In all seriousness, I believe, correct me if I'm wrong, Bo still holds the record, by a decent margin, for the fastest 40 time at the combine. AND HE WAS A POWER BACK!!!!

That's effin impressive. I say Bo but that's probably because I'm a raider and have always believed that his injury cheated the world our of possibly a full career from it's greatest athlete ever. And I'm a bammer!! Lol

But it is important to keep the term "official" in context because there is no such thing as a single "official" time at the NFL combine.

Here is what happens to get the 40 times at the combine:

• Those who participate in the 40 actually run twice. On each run they are timed by two handheld stopwatches and one electronic timer (that is actually initiated by hand on the player's first movement).

• Combine data put together for NFL teams by National Scouting includes all six of those times for each player, but no single official time.

Team scouts and coaches have various approaches for getting the 40 time they use from those six sources. Some use averages. Some throw out slowest and fastest and then average the rest. Some ignore the whole thing and use a time taken by their own scout.

So it is that Jackson's time of 4.12 at the Superdome is the best ever, verified by numerous reports that week in 1986, including a front-page story from USA TODAY.

What was his average yds (rushing + receiving) per year in the NFL?

He finished his pro (NFL/USFL) career with over 13k yards rushing. The only reason people think he had a bad/average career is because when he left school they were expecting the next Jim Brown and he didn't live up to that. That horrible trade didn't help either.

The impressive part isn't so much the exact time he ran it in, even though it's still the fastest to date. The impressive part is that he accomplished this as what most people would refer to as a power back and not a speedster. Not only could he run as fast as Barry sanders but he could run over u like a frickin bull dozer or stiff arm u like a back-hoe.

THAT'S the MOST impressive part of it.

I read his book, "Bo knows Bo", when I was a kid and the guy helping him write it said the first time he saw him was in a locker room after he got out of the shower. He said he looked like he had muscles in his damn toes. Lol

When you get older and comfortable with your life, often the body shape becomes a lesser worry. Especially for a middle-aged male. These things happen. You turn your attention more toward your wife and your children.

However, if you get older and you're bat-shite crazy and have live a life with regret and little to show, its likely you'll see such a middle-aged man obsess on his own body. Especially one with neither a wife nor progeny.
