Why would anyone pay big money for a women’s basketball coach?

I am no Fulmer fan but the best move he’s made so far was not dumping money in to that monstrosity of a sport.

Just a hire some bargain bin mid major coach and if you’re lucky the program will drift in to the abyss.

Kentucky coach. Originally from Louisville, MS. Coaches in MS high school ranks for a while before getting assistant job under Summit at Tennessee.

Wanted the job when Schafer was hired. Went to Kentucky and has built a nice program there. Would be the best realistic hire we could make.

Probably realized nobody else has ever won a national championship at state, what chance did he have?

If you’re going to compete in a sport, be the best.
Otherwise, don’t field a team.

finished runner up twice and should have gotten one against ND after a missed foul. He had a good shot

This would obviously be the best option but you can’t just dissolve the sport.

I get what you are saying. But losing a national championship game on a last second circus shot where you led by 15 in the second half isn’t about history, pedigree or whether your school has ever won a title. He choked that game away

The natty loss to Carolina. No way we were winning that game. Beating Connecticut and ending that 111 game winning streak was too emotional and distracting. That Carolina team was awesome and we had no chance.

I meant it tongue in cheek.
In other words, if you’re going to subsidize a sport, try to be the best/
If you don’t care about hiring excellence (e.g., “why pay for a top coach?”), why sponsor it at your university?

I don’t know. Staley owned him all but one year.

He will have a championship caliber team every year at Texas.

Guarantee you Dawn Staley wouldn't have left us no matter HOW much money they threw at her.

I would prefer Tennessee didn’t sponsor this sport due to the tiny, disgusting, cancerous fan base that the Lady Vols have but outside of this particular sport I generally agree with your premise.

If you get good at this sport it really brings out some disgusting creatures in your community that will make you wish you had never won a game.
