I liked the guy personally. He truly seemed to be happy, confident, and enjoying life. Hope he’s still doing well.

Me too. He seems like a nice person which is all I really care about in someone.
He became an easy target because State fans didn't like the idea of our most recognizable fan being a big fat guy, I think.
