With the inception of the college football playoffs, it has become clear that Auburn can no longer even accomplish a spoiler role in years where they actually do manage to beat Alabama. (See last years Iron Bowl and subsequent national title winning season for evidence)

It is looking more and more likely that Tua will win the Heisman this season, I just wondered how the Auburn family feels about potentially losing their only real historically accurate bragging rights that they have left to use against Alabama?

You probably should have a read a hint of sympathy for your fan base and the state of the rivalry in general.

Seriously I feel a little sorry for Auburn fans right now. They need something to throw in our faces... this is one thing they could always count on for years and years.

As far as Tennessee goes,
frick Tennessee
I really can’t stress that enough

Actually it used to be a badge of honor for Alabama to not have won a Heisman. The Heisman is for individual players, and Alabama has always been a team. I will tell you this, Alabama would trade both of their Heisman awards for one more National Title.

Some fan bases are happy just winning the Heisman, thinking it is a successful season not Alabama. If Tua wins, and Alabama does not win the NC, well, it will have been a bad year

Meh. Blue blood programs with Heismans (including Alabama) display them alongside natties.

I guess he doesn't know about Alabama displaying Mark Ingram's Heisman front and center in their football complex.

While this is somewhat true, a lot of this was just a coping mechanism for being shafted on the award so many times during the politically turbulent times of Bryant’s reign. There was a lot of regional bias then.

I can definitely say that we would all trade the Heismans for one more national title though. You are correct there.

That was also such a load of horseshite. Anytime an Alabama player got off to a hot start people magically canned that notion and got excited about him winning it. Then, when he didn't, people would trot that line back out there.

Winning the Heisman at Alabama doesn't make the season successful, but it's awesome and a point of pride for the program.
