Report: Oregon's Rob Mullens a primary candidate to fill AD vacancy at Texas A&M (DallasNews)
quote:

Texas A&M was one of just two schools to generate over $200 million in athletics revenue last year, according to USA Today, the other being rival Texas. The new Kyle Field has helped fuel the school’s rise in revenue since joining the SEC, where Mullens has ties from his tenure in various leadership roles at Kentucky from 2002-10.

Mullens earns $717,500 in base salary, according to The Oregonian. A&M paid Woodward $900,000 in base pay, according to the original contract he signed with the university.

Mullens has experience in the SEC. Before he went to Oregon, he was the deputy athletic director at Kentucky from 2006-10. According to the bio on the Ducks' website, Mullens has a strong financial background that specializes in accounting and auditing.

Earlier this week, A&M football coach Jimbo Fisher told reporters the university has asked for his input on the Aggies' next permanent hire.

Fisher and Mullens both hail from West Virginia. Fisher grew up in Clarksburg, which is roughly 45 minutes southwest of Morgantown, where Mullens went to high school and college.

Mullens is one of the most prominent athletic directors in the country. He currently serves as the chairman of the College Football Playoff's selection committee and oversees an Oregon athletic department that totaled $145.4 million in total operating revenue in 2016-17. According to USA Today's annual survey, it was the highest total of any Pac-12 school.

Talk to me, Kentucky fans.
What’d y’all think of him?

Meh, was hoping to steal a bluebloods AD. But I guess if fisher is alright with him, I'm game. Not expecting them to have to make any big sport hires for a while.

Mullens would be wise to leave U of O now.

Basketball program may be in deep doo doo down the road.

Best to get away from Nike U and get a fresh start with Aggy Oil Money, Inc.

Imagine being so desperate that an 8-4 coach who currently has the 30th ranked recruiting class and has his team at a whopping preseason 15th in the polls gets to run your school and decide who your AD is never change, mediocre U

I think he left UK for the Boise Smurfs before his last gig.

Seemed like a decent guy but can he land the good hires or will he just recycle staff from his previous stops.

I mean I understand that Aggy has been 2 months away from greatness every single year since 1930 without fail, but what has Jimbo done in reality that isn’t mediocre in the past 2 years? Pulling the 4th ranked recruiting class in the SEC last year?

The only reason that your fanbase accepts him is over a bunch of imaginary national championships that y’all think he’s going to win but are never going to come, because living in reality would mean that you’d have to accept that he’s been very mediocre and a huge disappointment since he got to A&M. It’s going to be the same exact song and dance as Sumlin and Chavis, year in and year out.

You act like it’s some kind of given that A&M is going to accomplish absolutely anything 6 months from now I mean do you need me to go back to the 8-4 record last year? Or the fact that y’all have a losing record to Mississippi State all-time? Or the fact that y’all haven’t won anything significant since Henry Ford was innovating the assembly line?

Or how about the fact that y’all have won 10+ games ONCE in the last 20 years?

A&M sucks buddy. The sooner you accept it the less crushed you’ll be when your Jimbo delusions never come to fruition
