Would make zero sense for him to transfer before the end of the season.

But you knew that.

Why would he? Dude still has a really good chance to win the job form Nix.

Players get mad because they have been there longer.

He's gonna play and probably play a good amount. He's already RS. He'll probably transfer after the season, but he'd do himself a dis-service to not get all the experience he can this year.

The chances of a true freshman shitting his pants against Oregon in game 1 are pretty decent so Gatewood is right to just let it play out

But couldn't he transfer it sit out the 2019 season and be ready to play for someone in 2020? Otherwise, he would most likely sit on the bench in 2019, then sit out 2020, then play 2021. Wouldn't be surprised if he gone.

Already used a redshirt. He'd lose a year of eligibility either way, unless he went the Stidham route and completely sat out a year and enrolled in 2020.

Not about the eligibility year. It’s about starting the transfer sit out this year instead of next...

It is not like he is someone's little brother that was promised the job next year or the Bear's great great grandson. He knows there is still a chance.

Only thing I previously knew about Joey Gatewood was that I was flipping through channels a few years ago and landed on the ESPN recruiting showcase high school game of the week. It was Joey Gatewood's showcase game. He got pulled for the backup quarterback. On his high school team.

You mean the next Cam Newton proclaimed by Auburn fans?

I thought he was starting and going to wreak havoc on the SEC?

Silly me.

Actually if he is gonna haul arse and odds are he will it's better to go ahead on and do it and be in his new team's system so he won't waste his spring learning the plays etc. That is if he is interested in playing and giving himself a chance. He was a dead fish the minute Nix signed. But some guys just want a free ride after it becomes obvious they are not the second coming of T. Brady and finish their degrees. So you never know. Maybe he'll hang around. I'm sure Gus will BS him and try and get him to stay as a backup.

Think about this:

The next Cam Newton isn’t even good enough to start at Auburn. Heisman Trophy worthy QB riding the bench while somebody better plays.

We definitely need him as a backup this year.

Hope he stays. Wouldn’t be shocked if he left
