I mean he went from shite to GOAT in 1 offseason. Has any player at any position improved that much from 1 year to the Next in ANY sport?

Yeah it was an incredible improvement. Went from Etling 2.0 to one of the best seasons for a QB ever.

I don’t think he was shite last year but it was the perfect storm. Last year the offense was set and he was told to run it. This year they designed the the offense to fit his skill set

Stanislas Wawrinka in tennis. Went from an average journeyman player his whole career to winning multiple grand slams, beating Nadal and Djokovic in finals out of nowhere at age 30.
Only comp I can think of

Honestly, in his first season at LSU, I was impressed with his grit. He was confident and unafraid to take a hit. He came in and showed AU what a physical qb who was unafraid of contact could do.
But damn, what he did this year... it was incredible. Game after game, I thought "oh they got him now" and yet he would escape and throw a beautiful ball.
What an amazing season this was for him and LSU.

quote:this nothing but an ignorant myth. Joe was pretty good last year. Tom Herman was always a big believer in Joe, and Tom is a great offensive and qb coach.

Joe was never shite.

He was good last year.
But man, he was about as close to perfection as one could get this season.

There's a HUGE difference between being "pretty good" and having the greatest season of all time. I'd say that's easily the biggest one year improvement I've ever seen.

That 4th quarter at auburn showed what he could become when they let him take the reigns

Burrow was very limited by the offense last year. He was under center a good deal and Chase/Marshall had not broken out.
I can’t think a single instance when Burrow was under center multiple times this year while the game was actually close.
LSU was also running Sullivan, Dillon and Jefferson out every play and while the first two aren’t bad players, they are not nearly as talented as Marshall and Chase.

He joined the team 6 weeks before the season started last year. We won a NY6 bowl, let's not act like we were dog shite.

I mean he wasn't terrible but he was completing half his passes for most of the year and went an entire month without throwing a TD pass. When the standard you have to compare that season to is a 60 TD season that's a pretty big difference.

He has improved a lot, but we said non stop and yall laughed, the receivers were dropping everything. That's a big difference this year. Joe was accurate last year but pass after pass hit a receiver in the hands and the ball would hit the ground.

I can tell you just look at the numbers. He was "forced" to throw the ball away alot and our wideouts led the sec in drops

i switched from missionary to doggy and improved my game tremendously

Burrow has improved to be sure, but QB play is a reflection of the entire offense.
Last year: Revolving door on offensive line. OL one of the weakest units on the team. Couldn’t pass protect.
This year: OL full of experienced Jr’s and Sr’s. One of the strongest units on the team. Wins Joe Moore award.
Last year: Lots of max protection due to OL woes. 2-man routes. Limited options for Burrow when pressure comes.
This year: Full-on spread offense. 5-wide. RPO. Burrow always has a safety valve.
Last year: WR corps plagued by drops. Two most physically gifted WRs on team (Chase and Marshall) are true freshmen.
This year: After 10,000 catches over the summer, WR corps is the best in the country. Chase wins Biletnikoff as a sophomore.
Last year: No “bell cow” RB, which has been LSU’s identity for decades now. Brossette was a good player, but probably the least explosive starting RB we have had since the beginning of the Saban years. CEH (sophomore) was the #2 back and primarily used in 3rd down situations.
This year: CEH dominates as a junior, surprising everyone (including a lot of LSU fans) with his combination of strength and shiftiness.
Honestly, I think the single biggest factor is the improvement in OL play. It’s one of the things that made it so easy for Ensminger and Brady to open up the playbook. LSU went from tons of max protect, to free-releasing the RB more than anyone else in the country.
ETA: I know people want to say it’s “all Burrow” or “all Brady”, but that’s a gross oversimplification IMO.
