"I would love for there to be eight teams," Malzahn said Wednesday on The Triple Threat on CBS Radio in Houston. "I'm an old high school football coach: quarterfinals, semifinals. You would have to figure out some way to eliminate the [FCS team] off your schedule or everybody have nine conference games or something like that. I think that's where it's going, we'll see what happens, but personally I'd like to see it."

Would love for this to happen.

He needs the extra spots to have a chance to get in with a 7 or 8 seed

4 is fine. Otherwise they would have to move it on campus.

Yeah I'm for it regardless. But the only drawback is less football in general. More great football though. What I mean by that is 114 team would have one less game, 16 teams would have the same number of games they had prior, 8 teams would have 1 extra game, 4 teams would have 2 extra games, 2 teams would have 3 extra games. The fans, in total, would come out with 53 fewer games. But still, more great football and a more legit champ so I'm for it.

We already pretty much have one and Auburn,Miami and Wisconsin were all eliminated in the 1st round.

Smartest thing he’s ever said. I agree with it all.

I like 6, with 2 getting a bye. He's right on getting rid of the bullshite games. Instead of 1, I'd say 2 and have a mini conference playoff to determine who gets in the big playoff.

And that’s a bad thing? That’d be awesome.

Would it matter? Gus is 1-4 in bowl games.

No. Otherwise bama wouldn't have gotten in because they'd been eliminated by not playing in the 1st round.
bama proved the deserved to be there so the only solution is to expand. Include each champ and 3 other deserving teams.

He didn't advocate for an 11 game season...just eliminating FCS games OR every conference playing 9 conference games to make everyone's schedules more equitable.

Here's the end result eventually: 3 SEC teams make the final 4. The rest of the country continues to moan, piss, and groan, "We need a 16 team playoff!" BAM! 4 or 5 SEC teams in the finals.
This will turn the regular season into the same crap that the NFL and NCAA BB have become. The regular season will mean little to nothing and college football will be cheapened.
You can call it a slippery slope/camel's nose argument, but it will prove true.

This.
If you take the Power 5 conference champions and 3 wild cards, the 8 teams in the playoffs would have been Clemson, Oklahoma, Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Auburn, and USC.
If you give the highest ranked G5 team a spot, UCF would have gone instead of Auburn.

Unless you're playing for something, it's essentially an exhibition.. So to answer your question, it would matter when it matters.

College football is more legit today than it has ever been. For more than 60 years we essentially pre ordained a champ and played the games to justify the media's decision.
