Missouri is one of the flattest states I've ever been too, so not sure how "Hillbilly" actually applies here.

That's the only comeback anyone ever has about Missouri. "Ozarks".

They look like very weak "Mountains" to me, and that's the best you have to offer. I stand by my statement that the state is one of the flattest I've ever been in.

Learn something new every day. Like the other poster, I always assumed WV or maybe Kentucky/Tennessee.
I always assumed the Clampetts were from Arkansas, but southern Mizzery is all the same.

Damn! Actually learned something on the Rant. Thought Clampetts were from Bug Tussle, TN. Turns out it was indeed Bug Tussle, MO.

Q: Was the Clampetts oil claim the only one of its kind in SW MO?

above the bluffs in Missouri was scoured by glaciers and is flat. south of that is hilly, woody, and infested with rivers.
sounds like you went to the more civilized part of the state.

I had family that grew up roughing it on par with the Beverly Hillbillies show depiction (the part before they got the money.)

The Clampetts from the sitcom The Beverly Hillbillies are from the Ozark Mountains of Missouri. The show's creator, Paul Henning, based the characters on people he met while visiting the Ozarks as a young man.

Here are some details about the Clampetts' origins:

Bug Tussle
The show invented the town of Bug Tussle, Tennessee, as Jed Clampett's hometown. However, there are also real towns named Bugtussle in Texas and Alabama.

Silver Dollar City
The Clampetts had friends in Silver Dollar City, a theme park in Branson, Missouri.

Eureka Springs
Elly May mentions Eureka Springs, which is in northwest Arkansas.

Limestone, Tennessee
Granny is from Limestone, Tennessee, according to an episode from season nine.

Oxford, Timbo, and Eureka Springs
The show mentions three real towns that border Missouri: Oxford, Timbo, and Eureka Springs.

The Clampetts are a poor family who move to Beverly Hills, California after striking oil on their land.

It's not the height of the mountains but the depth of the
gorges & ravines. The place is likely the oldest formation in North America ,
over one-and-a-half billion years. It's not really mountains,
rather an ancient highly eroded plateau , with rocks, rocks & more rocks.
The hills or mountains are jumbled together in no particular pattern.
I've traveled most of America and there's no other as large a place
that looks like the Ozarks.

The Beverly Hillbillies being from there is the best argument I've heard on here and good enough for me.

But compared to most states I've been in, I still think it's one of the flattest I've ever been in.
