Mark Richt

Eh. He's another John Cooper IMO. Good coach, solid tenure, but never was the premier guy in their respective leagues. Cooper couldn't beat Michigan and Richt couldn't beat Florida and they were both outshined by coaches at rival schools.

Bill Snyder, Pat Dye, and Frank Beamer are the right answers here. Honorary mentions to guys like Don Nehlen and Jackie Sherrill who did more with less.

ETA: Bo Schembechler - obvious number 1.

Would have like to have seen what Snyder could have done with more resources and in a better place to recruit.

I would like to think Gary Pinkel but I know I'm probably pushing it. Took a dweller Mizzou program to multiple Big XII title games and was 1 game away twice of a national championship berth. Won two SEC East Titles in his first three years would no one gave them a chance in hell.

Pinkel actually was a really good coach. I think he was just ahead of the game on the offensive side of the ball.

Gary Pinkel

Was within 1 game of the NC twice...probably would've beat tOSU in 2007 if so.

Gary Patterson built some great TCU teams out of some very low talent for a while.

Can we make an exception for baseball and Mike Martin?

I think Mark Dantonio would've at least earned an honorable mention had it not been for his recent scandal.

You could also make an argument for Dan Mullen.

Same for Ron Polk. Both are some of the best baseball minds to ever coach the collegiate game.
