Great Tweet from Freezing Cold Takes that sums up Mississippi's Rivalry

Certainly true. It's 24/7. Whether it's arguing about field drainage, attendance, towns, or even debating whether softball is more enjoyable than women's basketball, Egg Bowl Twitter has you covered more many others.
Part of this is due to the fact that both schools care about Football, Basketball, and Baseball heavily. So you could easily go from August to June just on sports on the field alone. Whereas is you look at one like Alabama-Auburn, the baseball rivalry is there as more of a marketing promotion.
I personally believe it's the most intense rivalry inside of the SEC with all things considered. The fact that both schools still hate each other so much while winning so little shows the willpower of the fanbases.
So thanks again Ole Miss for caring as much as we do about baseball. Otherwise last night would not have been as entertaining as it was with oldtakesexposed chiming in.
Bonus tweet: Ole Miss Fan saying they would win the National Championship after beating LSU LINK

I love Egg Bowl shite. It's insane. Any College Football rivalry centric twitter is great twitter. SEC rivalries are insane. But Egg Bowl twitter extends outside of football more than all the others.

The hate is all they have to play for.

Or it could be that both schools rarely win anything of significance so that butt plug of a trophy is usually all you have.

Come up with better threads.

It's the off-season. Want me to start a thread about my wall paint drying?

I heard a guy that covers D1 baseball and he had an interesting take on Ole Miss. He said that during their regional the fans in the stands looked more nervous than they did confident. He went on to suggest it's a culture of not believing in big outings and might transfer over to the players.
Now, I'm not saying I agree or disagree with that but I do know just from message boards there are a lot of OM fans who say stuff like "don't worry, we will screw this up somehow as usual."

Only relevant on Twitter?

These crazy frickers will talk to each other like old acquaintances at the pub and then all of a sudden out of nowhere you've got 5 pages of just shitting all over eachother's programs.

Arkansas has no natural rivalry so you would not understand. Same with LSU, both you guys are the only game in town. Alabama has Auburn. Msu has Ole Miss. Florida has FSU and so on. It's just hard for you to get it.

Arkansas and LSU fans probably get the rivalry more than you'd think. I mean think of the tension between brothers as they try to catch their cousins eye. Now that's a rivalry.

You'd like to squat down on that thing wouldn't you..

You people won't get what a real rivalry is until it devolves civil war shite talk of slavery, team names being opposing civil war groups, and literally burning the other's town down.

It's the history of choking away opportunities. It has happened so many times with those folks. They have cute nicknames for it...WAOM, Biancollapse, etc. They are incapable of enjoying success because they're always waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I can't think of an intrastate rivalry that is less significant on a national level. Neither school has won a regular-season SEC football championship in almost 50 years (division titles, or in Ole Miss' case, co-division titles aren't counted here), and Moo State has only won a couple in basketball.
Outside of Moo State going to the 1996 Final Four, neither has won anything of national significance, either. Even the baseball rivalry is overrated because neither has won a national championship, though you can't spell OMAHA without Ole Miss.

I love how the fan of one team can have a superiority complex over fans of other teams just because their team won a game of significance years ago. I get it, this is tRant and that's what people do here. But what happened in 2007, or 1992, or 1959, has no bearing on what's going to happen next year - LSU getting the shite kicked out of them on the football field.
I mean, LSU got the shite kicked out of them in their regional, but an LSU fan is running smack on the team that beat them in the SEC tournament, and a team that has advanced farther than them in this year's tournament, just because his team won something before he was old enough to drink? Child, please.

It also helps that it's an even rivalry.
Alabama and Auburn isn't a rivalry because it's so one sided.

Whole heartedly agree with this. When Tennessee Tech tied it up in the inning immediately after we went ahead, the stadium went silent as if we had already lost.

more accurately, Mississippi State's rival is the Memphis Tigers

No one outside of Mississippi goes “Yes, the Egg Bowl is on!” unless it’s Thanksgiving night.
When played on rivalry Saturday it usually gets lost on the schedule because it’s not an important game.
