The old doubleheader at Mississippi Memorial Stadium in Jackson. Fifty thousand fans moving out while fifty thousand fans moving in. Was a logistical nightmare. In the seventies Bear Bryant had enough and ordered the SEC to stop.

It was a nightmare with the traffic and parking, but fun as shite to hang out with all four fan bases...

Honestly didn’t know this was a thing. How long did they do this?

Part of me says "bring shite like this back!" but realistic me says there ain't no way I could handle an SEC football double-header, even if LSU wasn't playing.

The LSU-OM game was like at 1pm. The Bama-MSU game was like at 7:30...
Once the first game was over, the place cleared....Stadium, parking lots... Then Bama and State fans came in...

Old Memorial Stadium probably couldn't handle it.

It would be great to bring it back but Oxford/Starkville would never agree to it because the towns would lose so much money.

And it would fall during the week of the state fair some years. We would go to both games and then go the fair and drink beer until until it closed. Long day for sure.

Those were the days of the old Jackson Mall, and a lot different area around Mississippi Memorial.

If it came back for 1 year I doubt anyone would be clamoring for a second

I haven't heard this in a bit

I was young enough back then to be in the Boy Scouts. The only Scouting thing I ever did was put on a uniform and volunteer to usher these games so I could get in free

I'm not sure who controls Memorial Stadium, but if it's the City of Jackson/Hinds County...rut roh....

It could still be done with the right kind of logistic support, but I don't think Jackson itself could handle the crowds...not enough places for fans to go for entertainment/meals

It was a fun time. Alabama, and Auburn did the double header in Birmingham a couple of times. Fun times.

The only positive thing is that the UMC Emergency Room is right across the street.

ETA:
I want to be the first to say that if this ever goes down again, fans from all 4 teams are invited to the Cane's farm for a drinking Rantfest. Schedule it early enough and we'll have a giant pre-game dove shoot
