Good balanced take from Scott Rabalais on the ins and outs of the situation. Always enjoy his sports write ups.

quote:

HBO provided The Advocate a link to preview the film

quote:

What transpires during next nearly two hours of the soon-to-be aired HBO documentary, “The Scheme,” certainly makes it sound like LSU basketball coach Will Wade was talking about cheating with convicted felon and wanna-be basketball big shot Christian Dawkins

quote:

It doesn’t make things look good for Wade, but it also doesn’t necessarily make things worse for him at this time, either.

quote:

This may be the first time Wade can be heard actually saying the things he was quoted as saying in the Yahoo! Sports stories, in all their profanity-laced glory. That adds a level of shock to Wade’s words, like when speaking of Smart he says, “I’ve made deals for as good a players as him that were (bleeping) a lot simpler than this.”

quote:

Woodward, who inherited Wade from LSU’s previous administration under Joe Alleva (who in January told The Advocate he regretted making the hire) has not exactly given enthusiastic support to the coach. It has always appeared to me that Woodward would cut Wade loose if given strong reason to do so.

Good thing the President of the NCAA sips scotch and smokes stogies with the LSU AD at family birthday parties.

Yeah I actually think the program will be fine because of this, although I also don’t think Wade will survive it.

Because audio is 100x more damning than transcripts, right?

And the NCAA is going to base their rulings off a HBO show after Dawkins was found to have already lied under oath?

Wishful thinking is a powerful drug.

Enjoy.

This article pretty much directly contradicts Forde. We will just have to wait to see for ourselves what the show looks like.

This is why nobody takes the NCAA serious.

How so?

This article pretty much backs up what I was thinking, that it isn't just the NCAA that Wade has to worry about.

My thinking it he is likely to get fired over it, with the actual recordings being out there it's gonna be impossible to deny that it happened. Sounds from the article like the AD is basically looking for a reason to fire him anyway.

Sure it's the article writers opinion that he won't be fired but he is pro LSU of course he is gonna say that.

Forde says there is new stuff in the documentary that we haven't heard before and that Wade comes out looking worse than before and worse than anyone else. Rabalais says it's all stuff we heard before, that Wade doesn't look worse than before and that Sean Miller comes out looking worse than Wade.

I think someone asked this in the other thread but was that Sean Miller quote regarding Wade already known before this. I don't remember it being in the news when all the stuff was going down but maybe I missed it. I don't think that is anything major but interesting to hear from another coach regarding Wade that has had his own issues in the past.

This. Will be an interesting story to follow for the next few months (especially with no sports). I’m not naive enough to think we’ll ever get money out of the sport, but hopefully they can at least drive it underground again with a few well placed hammer blows.

Forde said there were new comments from Wade himself I believe whereas Rabalais says that there are not to be clear as to what I meant. To address your question though, I don't think those comments were public knowledge before. But, there's not a lot anyone can do with that I wouldn't think.

In terms of those statements by themselves, nah. I think it looks bad for potential public outcry but that itself wouldn't be enough to cause issues. Would have to be a combination of that plus the NCAA actively wanting to make a point or do something. Not likely imo.

I’ve seen several Tiger posters write something similar. It’s interesting. I would argue that it actually puts LSU at greater risk of sanctions.

The public/media outcry with nothing else going on is the thing I'm most concerned with. At the end of the day, yes he's an absolute moron for discussing this shite on the phone. But, there still is no proof of payment to anyone.
