SIAP...

Men's Rankings:

7. Georgia
8. Auburn
11. Vanderbilt
13. LSU
16. Tennessee
17. Arkansas
20. Texas A&M

Women's Rankings:

8. Vanderbilt
11. S. Carolina
12. Florida
13. Auburn
19. Georgia
23. Ole Miss
26. Arkansas
28. Tennessee

Only four SEC programs did not produce a team in either the Preseason Men's or Women's Top 30: Mississippi State, Kentucky, Missouri, and Alabama.

Question for Bama fans: What happened to your Golf programs? Didn't you just win national titles in both the men's and the women's recently? Somehow it seems those programs reached the pinnacle of success and then completely fell off the map.

We haven't exactly fallen off the map - it was always going to be hard to keep up the run of the early 2010s.

Men's Golf
2015-16 : #23
2016-17 : #17
2017-18 : #6
2018-19 : N/A

Women's Golf
2015-16 : #12
2016-17 : #14
2017-18 : #2
2018-19 : N/A

We went to Match Play and finished #6 and #2 in both sports as recently as 2018.

We had some awful luck last year - Davis Riley forgo his final semester to go pro and we had injuries to something like 3 of our top 5 (after Riley left). It was just kind of a lost year. I'm not sure about next year.

Both had a rough year last year.

Interesting. Yeah I'm used to seeing Bama near the top of the SEC in golf and I remember both programs struggled last year. I was just curious what had happened since Bama is usually strong in those sports.

I'm not sure what the deal is for next year - last year was supposed to be a solid men's year with an elite upperclassman in Riley and then some other very solid ones.

We basically lost all of them - so we had to play freshman in #1-3 roles that they really weren't ready for. I guess maybe the hope is they are ready to role this year, because if I remember right this year was looked at as a bit of a rebuilding year after we lost all the upperclassmen (who basically ended up not playing) last year.

As for the women, I watch them and keep up but I don't know much about their roster structure or recruiting.

Dusty Smith has us on the right track I think. Our golf program should improve over the next few years and I’m looking forward to it.

We have always had a competitive golf team and I don't know what has happened to us the last couple of years.

Our men are young but super talented. Once they learn to adapt to the pressure of the league they'll finish in the Top 15.

I mean, it’s fantastic.

Both the men and women have been kicking arse. Last season was a shite show, though. Alabama’s best golfer on the men’s side left to go pro and there were quite a few injuries.

Not exactly sure what happened to the women. They were filthy 2 or 3 years ago. Could have brought back an incredible team but I think the best girl went pro early. Then I think they had a FANTASTIC young group come in but I don’t remember seeing many of them last year...?

What happened to the Asian prodigy chick?

Played the championship match against OSU at OSU's home course. No chance there for the men. That women's championship match was a heart breaker. She almost holed out from the bunker to win it.

Amen

It's criminal how poor our golf programs have been when we were gifted Waverly as a home base of operations

The disparity between our women's teams and men's teams in every sport where we field both continues. Golf, soccer, basketball, etc, etc, etc.

I mean I "kinda" get it but still ... Martin will have basketball back on track this year. He's over the mass purging after the Final Four of the BB Gun posse and the other kid, the guard, Rakeem Feldman.

Golf reloaded. They're young but one of the top classes in the country.

Soccer ..... time for Mark Berson to retire. How old is he? He's been here over 40 years. I remember the first day I met him at Stuffy's in the 70s.

Tennis ... men had a better year I thought?

Gonna be tough for Martin to match Dawn Staley in success, but it's all relative.

Yep - literally lost on a Sudden Death 19th hole after barely missing an eagle that would have won the national title on 18.

We lost a lot of talent from the 2nd ranked team that tanked in the finals not to long ago. You don't get a Maria Fassi to walk through door every year.

That having been said the coach is a lifer and she has rebuilt the squad more then once. I suspect we will be around at the end of the season and be fairly dangerous next year. We have a ton, and I do mean a ton, of young talent coming into the program and one of them might be the next big thing.
