We'll be fine with Mason. If not, we'll throw a young buck in there. I'm not too worried about it. Shouldn't be that hard to hand off to our stable of running backs 3 out of 4 times.

This will never happen.

It will be Mason. Look for a lot of Gurley/Marshall runs.

He threw the ball about 75 times the last 2 games for over 600 yds.

Gurley, Marshall, Michel, Chubb, Hicks, Mitchell, JSW, Bennett, Conley, Rumph, Rome qualifies as a college football Ferrari

Mason isn't going to be what we hope for. He can't make reads worth a damn and locks on to one receiver when others are more than open. And don't give us any BS about the comeback against GT - its GT for pete's sake...my grandmother could throw for 300+ against them. Some of you are giving him WAY to much credit.

You'd better hope you can find someone that can throw the ball.

I don't care how good Gurley or your RBs are, the Richt/Bobo system ain't built to just have the QB hand it to the RB and become a spectator on 80% of your plays (or more). If that ends up being true, UGA and Gurley fricked.

A lot of projection in this though. I see UGA fans talking about how they're set beyond QB, but I think outsiders would say the jury is still out on many if not most of these guys. They're SEC players, but UGA fans seem to think Conley, Bennett, JSW, etc. are 2014 All-SEC in waiting, and I'm just not sure how accurate that is.

The problem is that even if the RBs can do it and do it successfully, Richt/Bobo won't do it.

Same guys were on our 8-5 team this year.

Conley and Bennett have been significant weapons for two years now. JSW was making play after play until he got hurt.

I'm not saying that they'll be all SEC. What I am saying is that if they are your 2-4 receivers, you're doing pretty good.

The "projection" guys would be Michel, Rumph, Rome, and Chubb.

I can agree with that. Our passing game sets up the run, our running game sets up the pass, etc. When both are working our offense is a thing of beauty. If we are sub-par in either, we will likely be sub-par in both.

I get it, but UGA fans I know tend to overstate the available tools, at least on a conference/national level. My buddies are convinced they'll be title contenders if Mason works out, "because man, we're loaded, we got Conley, JSW, Bennett, etc." Basically the same as on this board.

However, you'd think those guys were household names the way they're bantered around by UGA folks, but they're not. They're promising, but largely pedestrian, WRs at this point. And they were getting it tossed to them by the best QB in UGA history.

I understand how it is, you guys see the talent more than outsiders do because you look more closely, but homer predictions are frequently wrong. I'm just not sure it is fair to Mason to say he's surrounded by Ferrari pieces, when it is quite possible those pieces are average or were above average last year due to Murray.

UGA will be fine with him at qb. Mason has a good arm and looked pretty accurate during the second half of the GT game. At worst he'll be average which is ok with all the weapons they have.

More important for the dogs this season is how well their defense adjusts to Pruitt's new scheme.

I agree. We also don't know who stays healthy. Injuries are somewhat recurring.

Mason's stats in 2.5 games after Murray's injury...

2 qtrs vs UK...13 of 19...189yds...1td...0 int.

vs 7-5 GT...22 of 36...299yds...2td...1 int.

vs 8-4 Neb...21 of 39...320yds...1td...1 int.

TTLS....56 of 94...808yds...5td... 2 int.

Most saw the end of the Neb loss where 2 passes were dropped after Mason led UGA down the field...

I think he can be ok with our RB's healthy. Just be a game mgr...

It'll be Mason 80% and Ramsey 20%. Brice is the future and golden boy of the program...

What??!? You mean to tell me that he does the SAME DAMN THING MURRAY DID FOR FOUR YEARS?!?! Aaron went with a pre-snap read 90% of the time and more often than not ended up staring that guy down.

Now I do hope Mason gets away from that because I'm not sure he possesses the accuracy that Aaron did, but it isn't as bad as you make it out.

Also, why are you railing on a kid for this when he has played maybe 2.5 games in college? He has an entire offseason for Bobo to focus on him now, which he has never had before. He'll be fine, he has a ton of talent and experience around him.

If Mason is a total flop, then we'll probably start using a Bauta/Ramsey rotation that'll become more just Ramsey. The rest of the SEC should just hope that Mason is good enough, you don't want to see Ramsey lining up across from you.

I'm far more concerned about how the defense performs out of the gate.

This is all he NEEDS to be, but there is little chance that is all he will try/be asked to be. He is a gunslinger and Bobo likes to throw the ball around the yard. We will not be trying to ride the RBs as much as most are expecting.
