Was watching that Home beach buying show with the wife and the couple were from Valdosta.

They give their names and he says from Valdosta, and he chimes in with "Title Town"

Scroll down a while and you'll see a bit on why it's called Title Town. I never knew why either. Much deserved for them it seems.

valdosta high school has won multiple state and national titles, Lowndes has won multiple state titles, Valwood high has won multiple state titles, and the college, Valdosta State University, has won 3 recent division 2 championships. All 3 high schools, along with the college, are in Valdosta.

Too lazy to look up the actual numbers on how many they have each won.
Hope that helped.

edit: OK, I looked it up.

High school football

Valdosta has a strong high school football tradition. The Valdosta High School Wildcats have one of the most successful high school football programs in the country with 913 wins, six national championships (1962, 1969, 1971, 1984, 1986, 1992,), 24 Georgia state championships between 1920 and 2016, and 41 region titles.[57]

Cross-town rival Lowndes High School have also built a strong program, winning five state titles since 1980 (including 1999, 2004, 2005 and 2007).[58]

Local private school, Valwood School has won five GISA state football titles in Class A (1985, 1986, 1999), Class AA (2012) and Class AAA (2015).[59]

The annual matchup between the two public high schools, Lowndes and Valdosta High, is known as the Winnersville Classic.[60] Valdosta leads the overall series 34-16 and 19-12 since 1981 when the annual match was named the Winnersville Classic.

Baseball

The first baseball team at Valdosta State was formed in 1954 and had its first official season of intercollegiate competition in 1955. Tommy Thomas, became coach in 1967 and served as coach until 2007. It also comes from the ESPN thing they did back in 07. We were a semifinalist because it was right after we won both major titles.

My last assignment in the Air Force was Moody AFB in Valdosta. When Valdosta High & Lowndes High played you couldn't buy a ticket if you offered someone $5K......seriously.

Damn Lowndes! They beat my high school in 1999 in the 2nd or 3rd round to go to the finals.

Valdosta High is the Bama of HS football. They use to recruit players from all over, get their parents jobs, etc. There's not much else to live for there. Now they have one of the highest crime rates in the state, and don't win that many titles anymore. But they still call the town "Winnersville". It's all they've got.
