Georgia and Auburn Basketball

Historically, Auburn and Georgia SEC basketball laggards with occasional great moments with great players for both. Each has a final 4 appearance. Each has a legendary player (Barkley and Wilkins).
We’ve played almost 200 games and it’s within a game or two (98-95 Auburn I think).
Auburn appears to have an opportunity with Coach Pearl to change the narrative.
Who is Georgia bringing in to turn around the basketball program? Will Crean be retained?
I’m serious. With Atlanta right down the road, how can the Bulldogs not get better? I know recruiting is a national thing, Georgia has gotten elite players like Edwards recently. I just don’t think Georgia is getting their moneys worth out of Crean.

Thank you Captain Obvious. There is no reason for UGA basketball to be as bad as it has been, but Crean is not the answer.

I think that is the question he wants to discuss without trolling.
I believe he was wanting a serious discussion.

No, we're not getting our moneys worth out of Crean. We've been able to bring in a few elite players the last few years, but not enough consistency in recruiting to develop a strong team.
I would like to see Georgia follow a similar path to success as Auburn. Pearl gets most of the credit, but the decision to invest in the program and build your new arena was probably the real foundation to the program turning around. Who knows if Pearl would have even committed to coaching at Auburn had Auburn not already built the new facility?
Stegeman is just a bad, bad venue. I'd like to see us invest in a new facility and then go out and get a strong hire. But with all these things, it takes money.

Doubtful. The Colosseum was old AF and smelled like piss.

A guy similar to Barnes at UT would kill it at UGA.

You know you can't have a non troll thread on this board.

Totally did. Even smelled like piss 30+ years ago in the late 80's/Early 90's when I was there

Crean has brought in a lot more talent than UGA used to bring in, he's just a shite-arse coach. No way in hell he survives this season.

They just put tens of millions of dollars into renovating The Stegosaurus. They aren't building a new basketball arena.

Not sure if they could do it but assuming Forbes starts turning Wake Forrest around. They should go after him hard.

My serious answer is that Crean sucks and there is no reason for UGA to be bad at basketball.

Tom Crean is most likely the worst coach in the SEC.
His team turns the ball over like 20 times a game and can't shoot.
And other than Anthony Edwards, the recruiting has been average.
He's a complete disaster as a coach.

UGA has never been committed enough to basketball to realistically expect to be good at it.

We’ve all got money.
Georgia has the money.
Do it.
Build a basketball only 8500 seat arena.
Name something for Wilkins.

I agree it’s obvious, but it does not look like the AD gives a rat’s arse about basketball.
You guys should be good.
Look at Alabama.
I would say after Kentucky and Florida, they could make a case for being the third best program all time along with LSU.
It just makes no sense for UGA to be a horrid basketball program.

I think moving on from Crean is kind of risky myself.

If Alabama can make that case then so can Tennessee. It would be very difficult to find two programs in any sport more historically similar than Tennessee and Alabama basketball.
