All new SEC members must approved by reps from all schools unamiously.

I’m pretty sure it’s 11/14 to get admitted. I could be wrong though

a gentleman’s agreement is not even on paper…it’s about as useful as used toilet paper.

My understand is this was more a coalition of UGA, UF, and USCe that they would all vote no to GT, FSU, Clemson. I think one other school might have been part of this too but what I remember is it was a bunch of teams that would vote together against in-state teams joining.

A&M was never part of that.

Cannot confirm but I’ve heard the same story elsewhere.

A&M is definitely going to fight this inclusion of Texas. It may be a unwritten agreement but it doesn’t supersede policy

That’s not correct.

It takes 75%. So 11 of 14

I have a feeling that gentleman’s agreement is really to protect UGA and Florida. Things have changed a lot in the last 10 years and I don’t see these other schools standing up to protect A&M. I’d imagine if there was a vote of keeping A&M or replacing them with texas, most would vote for texas. That said, I get why A&M would be upset. But ole miss, miss state, alabama and auburn all have to deal with having 2 in state schools and the disadvantages that come with it. Texas is a big arse state with a ton of talent, they can deal with it.

When the league expanded a fourth was needed to provide the block. That was A&M but things change.

Texas A&M and Mizzou have only been in the family a decade. They don’t have the political capital to tell 12 other schools they need to say no to more money.

That might be the rule, but I could see the "gentleman's agreement"/unanimous vote being an unspoken thing. Conferences, like teams, function best when everyone's on the same page.

You could see a coalition of power programs- say Alabama/Florida/Georgia- try to lean on some others to do something, if a school is on the fence. But this is another dynamic entirely.

A&M chose to leave the Big 12 and Texas, when most assumed those two were joined at the hip. I don't know the full details of Missouri leaving and why, but the SEC was definitely a safe landing spot, even though they're a bit out of place here. Arkansas chose to leave the SWC years ago, Nebraska and Colorado left the Big 12.

You don't see teams leaving the SEC, the Pac 12, or the Big 10. The fact that Texas seems to drive off major partners is disturbing.

Lol, am talking gentleman’s agreement as soon as they joined.

All other SEC schools then and right now.

They would have to include A&M in that otherwise they wouldn't have enough no votes to protect themselves.

Kentucky due to Louisville. The Wildcats hate their in-state rival more than the other 3 combined.

Supposedly, Mizzou thought they were going to join Nebraska and Notre Dame in the Big 10, but when the Irish backed out, The Big 10 decided to stay at 12. Mizzou was left as a man without a country. Then, A&M decided to jump, and the ACC teams balked at leaving, so the SEC gave both A&M a home and picked Mizzou over West Virginia as the 14th school to get to an even number.

One of these is not like the other. It'd be like if Tulane was in the SEC. Vanderbilt doesn't count.

If this "veto" block is true, then A&M, Florida, and USCe are all bitches.

I for one have no problem letting in Texas and OU. It would improve the brand. If we have to punt any of these noobs (Arky, USCe, A&M, or Mizzou) so be it.

And Vanderbilt, just for good measure. This isn't the ivy league. WTF are they doing here?
