adding USC & UCLA increases tv market & makes for potential branding as "the only conference across America"

USC adds in terms of football, UCLA adds a basketball power

Logistically I see them extending this offer to Oregon & Washington (better fits than California schools)

They want to be the "premier league" this addition helps in that department

I mean, this stuff has been talked about for years. I wouldn't call it "genius".

And if the B1G also add WA, OR, ND, and say CO? Now they have a presence from coast to coast. That is what I would do if I were them. Mega, mega dollars

USC moving has absolutely been discussed for years. Also, from all accounts the two schools approached the Big 10, not the other way around.

Also the whole "branding" thing is irrelevant, no one cares about that.

I assume you mean better fits than the Bay Area schools. Why? What is Oregon other than Phil Knight money? Washington has a little history, but none of it is recent. If this is a money move, you'd probably rather have the Bay Area schools and, potentially, more TV viewers, not to mention how much stroke those schools have in some other areas. Remember, this is the Big 10 we are talking about. I can't see how they would let Berkley and Stanford go in order to take Oregon and Washington, especially given that Berkley and UCLA share a board of regents.

Any conference without SEC teams will never be the "premier league".

1 conference title since Carroll went back to the NFL and only 1 BCS/CFP/NY6 bowl win since then as well.

And although the LA metro area is huge, I can seem to find any list that shows it as a top CFB TV market.

I love that we’re slowly killing all those bush league match ups. We’re trending towards every single Saturday having quite a few marquee matchups.

With an incredibly shitty product, they were #16 last year.

It's a good move for them, but it's also an odd move in a lot of ways.

It's weird that USC is going to play a conference game in Piscataway, New Jersey. For football, not much of a problem, but that women's rowing meet is another matter.

I don't see them nabbing the Oregon and Washington schools. The ACC might be in trouble, and the Big 12's new commissioner's job just got a lot more challenging. If I'm the PAC, I go hard after the Big 12's core membership. Houston, Cincinnati, and Central Florida could be back in the American before you know it.

That's why the sec should be focusing on adding NC and VA schools along with AZ and CO

People in LA love college football. Probably more so than the South even. They will also be thrilled that the Rosebowl is now kaput.

B1G has NYC, Chicago and now LA TV markets. The problem is Atlanta, Dallas and Birmingham draw more for college sports.

“The only conference across America”

Except for that little section in the southeast where people care about ball the most
