Gary Danielson: Your grade for him

I give Gary a solid B. I won't miss Gary but he was mostly solid. He really really knows tendencies and Xs and Os.
There will always be fans closer to the paranoid spectrum who say "Gary hates my team" but I don't think that's true. It's just that Gary is way more likely to say nice shite about your team if they are good. The reason that people think that Gary is an Alabama homer is because Alabama does the most good things.
Gary has sounded like a serious Georgia homer in the last few years but just because Georgia is way better than they were when he first started doing the games, at which point Georgia fans thought that "Gary hates Georgia.".
I am taking up for Gary here.

He could give some good analysis, but then go off on something as brilliant that was obvious to anyone. Just odd at times.

Never understood the animosity towards him

The first few years he was ok, but recently he's gotten to be pretty annoying. Not Beth Mowins level, but annoying just the same.

He's not nearly as bad as he's made out to be. The cool thing is to hate on Gary Danielson, but he's not that bad. This may be a hot take, I'm not sure, but Musburger is way more annoying to me.

Gary can be biased at times but I don’t mind him. Maybe it’s nostalgia, but I’ll actually miss him somewhat. I also think of myself when these conversations are had about commentators.. I probably can’t do half the job their doing, so even if he’s biased sometimes, I respect his job, and think he does pretty solid. Personally I’d rate Gary a B+ at the minimum.

Gary was good back in like 2006 when CBS hired him. But he got older and cranky has sucked arse for a while now.
CBS shouldn't have ever let Todd Blackledge walk. That Verne/Todd Blackledge combo was pretty good.

He and Vern get an A.

I've always liked him. The fact that he gets under the skin of so many people here makes him even more likeable to me. He can go on and on and on about a certain point from time to time, but it rarely bothers me much.

Like most things the grass ain't always greener. We are gonna miss Gary and Verne/Brad Nessler when we start getting the hokey arse fools on ESPN every week.

Nobody more frustrating when trying to guess a replay call, he was literally never right on any of what he was looking at.
X1000 slow mo zoom footage of a guy stepping out of bounds that they’re reviewing, Gary thinks they’re looking at a block in the back in the other side of the field

C at best. To me he is someone who makes things more about him than the game itself.
But there are certainly much much worse.

I challenge the Gary haters to give me the names of two college football color announcers on television that are better at their jobs than Gary. And they have to still be alive and active, don't give me some old chunk of coal from the 60's.
Begin now.

My problem with Gary isn’t that he’s biased. My issue is that he acts like a fanboy and will talk about a given player/coach until the topic is no longer interesting.
He’s good when he’s just doing game commentary.

That dude is more of a bama homer than Finebaum.

He was pretty good at times but really if you think he was great or didn’t see the issue with him it meant you don’t really know the game. He would give good analysis or a while then say something that was smart or at least he thought sounded smart and then keep talking about it for the rest of the game. The less knowledgeable would be amazed because they didn’t know any better but if you understand the game at all if was just annoying.
