Games with no fans and no bands?

Have bands been discussed at all? It just occured to me that, if there's no fans at the games, the bands are probably out too.

Personally, I love college bands and see them as a staple of the gameday experience. A game with no fans will be pretty quiet, but bands would make it much more bearable imo. I'm not looking forward to piped in noise/music.

I'm wondering if this issue has been discussed or addressed in any way.

It’s a shame the booster who’s been going to games since the 60’s is at highest risk and should stay home, but everyone else should have the opportunity to go if they want.

At least give us a choice. Damn.

I get no fans, but no bands? Even the Titanic had a band.

I'll take football however I can get it, fans or not. It will definitely be a different experience without it, but I'm willing to give that up if I can at least watch it on TV this year.

Same here. I'll watch the games no matter what.

I'd prefer to have games with no bands.

Cheerleaders won't be necessary either. Who are they going to encourage to cheer for the team?

Same

I honestly don't care that much. Maybe I will once sports resume and we get used to having them, but for now I just want stuff to watch and follow. I don't really mind taking a year off from live sporting events.

These games will be glorified scrimmages.

They should at minimum let the students attend and if the band isn't playing then let them watch from the stands as well.

It would be weird but we just need football on tv at a minimum.

I think I'm fine with us not having a football season this year, personally.

College football without the bands is like watching the old NFL Europe, or whatever it was called. It would suck.

I'm cautiously optimistic that we're going to be playing in front of full stadiums, even if that means everyone has to wear a mask. But, if social distancing is still in play, it's going to be pretty hard to to work in bands. While you can probably spread them out in the stands and make that work, I'm not sure how they would handle rehearsals (no one has an indoor rehearsal space that would meet the six foot distance that is usually considered "safe") and practicing drills (if they march). For all the talk about that choir practice in Washington that turned out to be super spreader event, band practice may be even worse as a potential spreader.

The thing the bands have going for them, however, is that they are all in their late teens/early twenties. So what if a few of them catch the virus? It's highly unlikely to prove life threatening. That Washington choir was largely elderly, and that makes a huge difference.

If college football would get rid of bands, play it through the loudspeaker, and sell those seats... we'd all be better for it.

I agree, i bought that Tony Ferguson vs Justin Gaethje UFC fight a few weekends ago and as stacked as that card was it was still weird as hell watching it. It was like i was watching a bunch of MMA fighters practice, the silence of it was just so apparent. I can only imagine how much clearer it will be when the venue holds 75k+ vs 15k.

Without fans, there'd be plenty of room to space out band members. Can you imagine the wall of sound if they were spaced out, 6 feet apart, between end zones?

But even if they don't have live bands, I'm sure they'll just pipe in pre-recorded band music and fan noise.

Virtual band. Pump in band music and CGI the band members. We will hardly notice the difference

The guys at Good Bull Hunting said it best:
quote:

No Midnight Yell. No tailgating. No Corps march-in. No Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band, No 12th Man in the stands. Playing Texas A&M football without all of the usual trappings that make it what it is feels so foreign, and it’s something that just a few months ago we couldn’t fathom would ever occur. But it’s something that we’ll likely have to soon experience.

quote:

Football may be different. It may not be quite as good. But the good news is that it will probably happen. And at a time when so many of the joys of life that we normally take for granted are suddenly gone, that’s something worth getting excited about. Most Aggies, and many others around the country, are optimistic about the team we have in 2020. If they play to their potential, with the schedule they have in front of them, they could do some great things. But maybe the greatest thing of all is that it appears the season will actually happen. That alone is something to look forward to, even if it will look and feel different than what we are used to.
