I would imagine his knowledge of the offense combined with the lack spring due to covid contributed to this.

Yeah, his connection running Bobo's offense at CSU + experience makes sense to lean on him early in the year.
It'll be interesting to see what kind of leash he is given and how quickly he'll get pulled if he doesn't play well with Hilinski behind him.
ETA: With that said if Hill is playing well he better stay in. I hate the QB rotating every other play or every other drive just for the sake of doing it.

Getting Bobo was a great move for Muschamp. Maybe he'll finally have a competent offense for once in his coaching career.

For his sake I hope not. QBs don't play as well when they're constantly looking over their shoulder.

I'm not very excited about this. Hill has a lousy record as a starter at Colorado State, and just doesn't appear to be a special talent.
What is the point of recruiting these apparent star QB recruits if you're not even going to use them?

This is starting to sound like a Kirby Smart situation where you have an abundance of young talent at QB and end up keeping none of them.

I thought Hilinski showed some promise last year. Did he just not develop that well in the offseason?

Should be interesting...

Hill is 1-9 as a starter against FBS teams. His lone win came in 2016, and he's had 3 ACL tears since then. During his time at CSU, Hill had 3 WRs who are multi-year NFL players (Gallup, Preston Wilson and Olabisi), and Warren Jackson will be in the NFL next year after opting out this season. Think about that - a large talent advantage for him at WR vs. MWC secondaries compared to now when he's got @ SC vs SEC secondaries/defenses

SCoots have the following;
-a Colorado state QB as starter
-three QBs at WR
-RBs in the FBIs witness prot. program (nobodys heard of them)

This is from a fairly unbiased poster on Volquest who does a good job of scouting the upcoming teams we play and breaking them down prior to our games each week. Here's what he had to say..
That's a pretty ominous write up from one of the few UT fans on the internet who does a good job of taking his feelings out of each game and being as objective as possible.
quote:
Have watched a lot of SoCar, two things jump out:
1) How much production they lost on offense, from Edwards/Markaway and Feaster/Denson/Dowdle. You almost never (outside of Shi Smith's 75 yard TD on the first play of our game) see anyone else make a meaningful play in a game vs. a non-FCS team. We know they expected Lloyd to come in and be the starter because the two returnees, Fenwich and Harris, are neither experienced nor very talented. JUCO Z. White came in and jumped them on the depth chart, but he's been hurt with a hammy and is, from what I can tell, at least going to be less than 100% this weekend. Cock TOS mods have as recently as this morning they expect Fenwick and Harris to be the primary RBs in this game.
I've mentioned this before but their WR situation is so bad that they are BADLY needing D-II Wingate transfer Brooks to get eligible because he's been far and away their best WR. Aforementioned Smith is solid but he's no Bryan Edwards, and behind him it's retreads and 3-star freshmen...
2) How much their supposedly top-flight CB Israel Mukuamu gets picked on. He made his name with the 3 INTs against UGA, two of which were gift-wrapped by Fromm. But everyone from App State to UF to Texas A&M to Clemson (not to mention us) just abused him. Wouldn't be surprised to see Chaney single him out next Saturday.
Side note: Defender Jahmar Brown, who Muschamp said the below about in early Sept, probably won't be back for our game per that same mod:
“It might be our best combination on the field, at this time, when he’s playing at the dime. He’s very athletic, can play in space, and has instincts to play in the box. We’re going to continue to get him more reps there. At the safety position we put a lot on those guys as far as verbiage, making the calls, having urgency, things we’ve never asked him to do. I think he’s handling those things very well.”
I'm going to watch a little of CSU today/tomorrow to see if I can glean anything about what to expect from Bobo. I'll say this already though, more about projected starting QB Hill specifically than Bobo: He is 1-9 as a starter against FBS teams. MWC secondaries compared to now when he's got what I've described above against our Defense+Pruitt/Ansley.

Didn't need that many words to say that South Carolina sucks. It might be the worst collection of WRs South Carolina has had in 20 years. Jaycee Horn is the only NFL-caliber player in the defensive backfield.
It is going to be a bad, bad year. Might win 2 games.

Weird that you keep track of our waivers and starting WRs so intently for a team that isn't "in your head," especially since we don't even play this year.
Even weirder that you keep up voting yourself.

Which position groups if any do you guys expect to be better at from last year?
