Source: Former 5-star RB Camar Wheaton away from Alabama, unlikely to return
Alabama true freshman running back Camar Wheaton is no longer listed in the school's student directory and has been away from the team, multiple sources tell 247Sports. Though an official announcement has not been made, a source indicated to 247Sports that Wheaton is unlikely to return to Alabama. Wheaton is not listed in the transfer portal, 247Sports has learned.
A five-star running back in the 2021 class, Wheaton did not make an appearance during his debut season as he dealt with a knee injury. Alabama head coach Nick Saban most recently provided an update on Wheaton in early
November.
Camar Wheaton’s still rehabbing,” Saban said. “He’s not on the field yet. He’s got a ways to go.”
Wheaton ranked as the No. 34 overall player in the 2021 class out of Lakeview Centennial High School in Garland, Texas. He picked Alabama over Oklahoma. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound Wheaton ran for 3,731 yards and 48 touchdowns in his highs school career.
Alabama lost starting running back Brian Robinson to the NFL this offseason. The Tide did bolster their running back room with the addition of Georgia Tech transfer Jahmyr Gibbs, who rates as the top overall running back in 247Sports' transfer rankings.

He’s a guy I hoped LSU would get out of high school.

Meh… Gibbs transferring kind of made him irrelevant.

Really weird situation where he had an injury but apparently had his own trainers/doctors/something always looking at it. Was apparently pretty reclusive on campus.
Not sure exactly but it sounds like he just never really hit the ground running with the team. Hope it works out for him somewhere else. We never really even got to see him in a uniform.

East Texas kid. If Arkansas wasn't so loaded at RB, they'd probably go for him hard.
I figure Oklahoma has been tampering pretty heavily to get him back close to home.

When did he get hurt?

He flipped very late to us last year (before the February signing day I think) from Oklahoma.

Fall camp maybe? He didn't dress out for a single game. And he started the year like 6th on the depth chart so it wasn't huge news when you didn't read about him. But then every else started getting hurt and the beat writers were just kind of like "yea, he's still out with a foot thing, we don't really know".

Ok, so Saban’s update in November isn’t that telling.

I don't stalk our players, so I don't know?
You're really wanting to ask Auburn fans.

Sounds like a Arik Gilbert situation.

I don’t think you can say that. How would anyone know? He’s been injured.

Maybe a couple things to consider:
How did he take to rehabbing? It's mentally tough. Particularly for a kid who's used to being the Cat's arse.
Since he's not enrolled the scholly is now gone. I wonder if he was going to class.
