Fair disclosure: This works a lot better when I didn’t just make a joke, too, but I’m sticking with it.

He also said it was damn close to not happening at all. Ads hated it. After unc Clem were invited Clem said yes. Unc said no. So they scrapped Clem(he said he wouldn’t go into detail why Clem invite was pulled) and approached atm fsu. Fsu said no and they asked Miami. Miami also said no and atm also decided it wasn’t for them. The ads felt like he was turning the sec into a laughing stock. Bc everyone was rejecting the sec invite. But against their will he convinced them to ask two more schools. If they said no expansion was off the table. Arky and usce said yes. It’d be interesting to see where we’d be if arky or usce said no. Cf would look very different

At that time Arkansas was something of a basketball powerhouse. Both schools love their football.

I don't like the expansion beyond 12 teams because of how it changed scheduling traditional opponents but the 12 teams with two divisions was about as well balanced as it could have been.

Ironic as hell now that Clemson might have been in instead of South Carolina. Miami and FSU certainly would be better off financially but I don't think they or Clemson bring anything special to the SEC at this point

Ehh Clem viewer numbers are a lil better than usce but it’s close you get one you get the other mostly. Now unc/atm on the other hand would have been way more profitable than arky.
