Ellis Johnson on the Gary Harris show this morning and he details what ails Tenn, it's not just about Pruitt, but the bigger picture. Very insightful.

Ellis Johnson
Now that’s a name I haven’t heard in a very long time.

If he didn't say "Philip Fulmer" then he is horribly wrong...

I'm not clicking on your link but the answer is culture, plain and simple. There's no buy in. Without buy in and senior leadership you aren't going to succeed.
Pruitt's situation isn't THAT much different than kirby's. Both were career coordinators with a saban background that were elite defensive minds. Lights out recruiters. Hard nosed personalities. Kirby inhherited a better roster, no doubt there, although it's nothing like what is in athens now. The complete apathy around the program after 2015 when richt left was all consuming. AGain we were in a bit better shape than UT was 2 years ago, but there are still parallels.
Kirby went 8-5 in 2016 with losses to vandy and tech and a near loss to nichols state at home. AGain, not much different than pruitt (both also beat gus, of course). The big difference is kirby convinced the team that all the work they'd done the last year and a half was for a purpose and got htem to buy in. The talented juniors that could have left early decided to stay and it paid off wiht a magical 2017 and off we go. For whatever reason, pruitt isn't getting the buy-in.

I disagree with that. He sounds like he is covering for his buddy Pruitt by saying the cupboard is bare. They are definitely more talented then Georgia State, and if you watched the game at all, there were several times you could tell the effort wasn't there. That is coaching and motivating.
That said this could be a one game problem or maybe worse. Everyone says Pruitt is a proven coach, but being a head coach is not the same as being a position coach or coordinator.

UGA won 10 games the year before Kirby took over, with a top 10 finish the year before that. VOLS literally had their worst season in history the year before Pruitt.

Ellis Johnson took Southern Miss to their worst season in school history 0-12

All I know is before Saban at LSU, several teams were coming into LA and cherrypickking whoever they wanted and one of those relying on those players was Tennessee.
Had Lane Kiffin stayed at Tenn he may have gotten some more players out of LA with O and Frank Wilson on staff.
Tenn doesn't have the recruiting base to sustain it like they used to.

wiht one of the worst offenses in decades.
-we were shellacked by bmaa
-we lost to TN
-we beat mizz 9-6 with neither team scoring a TD
-we beat AU despite scoring 1 TD on offense
-we needed OVERTIME to beat ga southern
-we beat gt despite scoring 1 TD
sure we won 10 games but many of them were low scoring squeakers that we somehow hung on to win despite not being able to score touchdowns. And again, I acknowledged we were in better shape overall but tehre are definite similarities. And in kirby's first year in 2016 we did lose 5 games including some really bad ones, that '16 season wasn't all that much better than pruitt's first season.
eta: my whole point remains the same though, that kirby got the kids (and seniors) to buy into what he was preaching. Pruitt hasn't done that.

Couldn't care less what that sorry arse frick has to say. He took a 12-1 Southern Miss team that finished 13th in the country to 0-12.
Worst hire in the history of college football.

Well, I forgot the memorable stint he had as head coach at Southern Miss.

I agree to an extent. It appears that Kirby pretty much has complete control over his program while Pruitt has to answer to higher ups a lot more.

You can't blame a loss to Georgia State on talent...sorry. That team looked poorly coached and gave zero fricks about getting blasted by a program they should beat by 40+.
That's on coaching

Team was a joke that got embarrassed by Bama and UF and didn't even finish in the top 25.
The 2015 senior class was was one of the worst in UGA history and zero players drafted.
