A family is alleging former UF football player John Huggins raped an underage teenager earlier this year when he was still with the program.

The rape allegation against Huggins and its timing — just weeks before UF’s season opener against Miami — offers new insights into his mysterious departure from Florida’s football program.

The grandmother of the alleged victim spelled out the allegations in an email to university officials, athletic officials and reporters the next day, describing the circumstances of the alleged rape.

Three days later, Huggins was dismissed from the team.

The grandmother’s email was sent in response to a report from the Tampa Bay Times after Mullen’s press conference on Aug. 6 revealing that Huggins was accused of choking a female tutor in October 2018. Mullen said he was aware of it at the conference but said it had “been handled,” referring to Huggins’ five-game absence in the aftermath of last season’s allegation.

And Florida explained Huggins' absence from the
team that he was dealing with a "family issue".

At least he didn’t murder anyone. That’s progress for the Gators

Didn't a former MSU Bulldog/John Curtis kid just go on a random shooting spree in Nola?

Easy to hang then convict. Was he actually charged by law enforcement? None of us know the circumstances but don't let that stop the board from getting rope to hang him.

At this point the most important thing is that he is a FORMER player and we are doing quite well without him. There have been multiple former players of SEC schools that have been charged in heinous crimes.

For dismissing him? He was gone 3 days after these allegations. Seems like the right time to investigate and ask him to leave. What more can he do?

Man that is terrible.

Why can't we keep our rapists on the team like FSU does?
Total bullshite.
Also how do UGa fans not find this first as much as they stalk UF?

Georgia doesn’t have these kinds of issues with their players so they can point fingers

Of course not. Right up until they leave, then they were a POS the whole time and it was a matter of time before they were run off. What is this strange attraction LSU has with UGa?
