Football Facilities and their impact on the game

I have seen the football operations facilities pop up across the landscape. I think some schools are defining their facilities in different ways. Muschamp has made it clear that while ours has some amenities, it is a work facility. If these facilities also have nap rooms...sliding boards...video game rooms....theaters....and many other things, will it soon be enough of a distraction that the schools with the most amenities will suffer. I think kids are going to be kids so if you add...school work...social life...these distractions....along with home and family distractions...I really think the play on the field will suffer. These kids have less time for the playbook and it will not be a good thing for some. I may be wrong...I have been many times in the past. I guess we'll know in 10 years. I think now they are a necessary evil....or maybe not.

A couple of things I guess.
First of all this.
"Muschamp has made it clear that while ours has some amenities, it is a work facility."
Ok, that's a sell job for this. We don't have amenities and we're not putting any money in them so we'll re-badge our facilities as a "work facility", as in we're all about business here.
Now this.
"Will it soon be enough of a distraction that the schools with the most amenities will suffer?"
The facilities arms race has been on for a while and it works at drawing recruits. If a team wants better recruits, better facilities are required. Programs that dump money into these amenities are more committed to winning than those who don't. And if a power 5 university isn't committed to winning on a large scale, that's cool. They just can't complain about being a "have not".
And as far as those amenities being a distraction? Ok, just lock the doors and say no.

Oregon has the best facilities in the country and they have done nothing since chip left. Winning is all that matters. Facilities is nice but you gotta win at the end. Winning is what makes the best recruits commit.

Why was I not surprised to see this to be a newb poster. Geez...
I remember when I first heard of "college football." this all has been happening for decades.

Obviously this is a dig at Clemson.
Everything you're against is the opposite of what's going on at your big brothers north of you, Clemson. What ever they're doing is working.
South Carolina will be better this season. But will they be good enough to be Kentucky? That's what you guys should worry about right now, not obsessing over the facilities at Clemson.

Worry about beating Auburn this year and we'll worry about what we need to do. K? Thx.

quote:bullshite. Winning is obviously the most important thing, but elite athletes get offers from nearly all the ultra successful schools. Anybody who doesn't think the awe factor that Alabama-style facilities presents to recruits isn't HUGE needs to just hear what they say about their on campus visits...most are blown away!

That’s why LSU has a full sized student athlete academic center as well.

So do we. "The Dodie Anderson Academic Enrichment Center" opened in 2010, 40,000 square feet at the cost of $13.5 million.

Are you still acting like you’re not a Clemson alter?

Waterfalls are not something that will distracts kids...nice try....but it shows how little understanding you have with the question.

Clemson was the main point of conjecture but it has now become a "who can out do who". Clemson just took it over the top and someone is really going to have to step up the amenities threshold to top them. I am sure that if it effects anyone with the distractions then their program will be the first to feel it's effect.

You either genuinely don't get his point or you're pretending not to.
It's probably the latter but just in case you really don't get it, the point is this.
All this fancy shite's not a distraction.

His response was silly. I was just pointing that out. If he had simply said "I disagree" then OK. I expect people to disagree, not a problem. If he is going to dance around with silly statements then I will call it like it is.

But these amenities aren't a distraction though. They're a magnet, an attraction and if they do become a distraction to the team or if the staff feels these luxuries soften the players, then the solution is simple. Keep your arse off the water slide or stay out of the nap rooms. No more mannie peddies or whatever the frick else it might be that's serving as a distraction.
Clemson, like alabama has committed itself to the concept of total war when it comes to football. The entire university is pulling in the same direction and if clemson maintains this focus, the payoff for the university as a whole will be immeasurable. Just like it's been for alabama.
