Remember back to October 2012 when Saban was complaining about the rise of HUNH spread offenses? He asked a rhetorical question and got shite from just about every rival fan on here. Some people on here even speculated that Saban was holding onto the "archaic" pro style offense because he didn't know how to adapt to the sweeping offensive revolution that was gripping the nation at that time.

Fast forward six years, Saban is still on top. He adapted his offense, changing it the spread with some HUNH tendencies added in for good measure. His defensive philosophy has also adjusted, as he now recruits faster and lighter linebackers to deal with the spread 'em out concepts teams throw at him week in and week out.

The ability to evolve one's offensive and defensive philosophies are marks of a great head coach. Bryant had them and so does Saban.

Six years ago, Saban complained about the spread offense beginning to inundate college football. Now his offenses are scoring nearly 57 points a game with that same offense.

We're honestly all just waiting for Saban to retire. We're all aware he can name how many championships he's going to win

Good thing you don’t have to take little Saban out of your mouth to type such love poems

When Saban talks about rule changes I typically agree with him.

I wish the great sage of all wisdom would have said that about the college playoff. You could already lose "the game of the century" at home and play for the natty. Now you can lose to your rival the last regular season game and win a natty. Pretty soon the college season will just be like preseason nfl football for bama, osu, usc, clemson, etc.

Here's what's coming next. "We are sitting Tua out of the Auburn game. We dont really need to win it or go to SEC championship. The risk of him getting injured and not playing in the postseason is too great. Any of you mouthbreather media got a problem with that? Roll Turd"

Sorry for hijacking your "Saban can win with the winged T" thread.

The playoff is not all good. Classic rivalry game with both teams in top five last year. Iron bowl. Turns out in the big picture its better for one team to lose the game? Really not good.

He wasn't conplaining... He was warning people what would happen if he brought it in. They didn't listen.

Is it the same for the 64-team basketball tournament or the College Baseball World Series, or nearly EVERY other sport in college or pro sports?

I don’t like the man. But he’s clearly one of the greats.

Yep. Last week ESPN replayed the 2007 LSU-Auburn game. It was so much more fun to watch. The level of hitting and tackling, knowing that every play wasn't going to be reviewed for targeting, was the way I remember football

He did. While most of you were clamoring for a playoff, and then a larger and larger playoff, Saban was saying that the playoff would take away some importance from the regular season and from non-playoff bowl games.

And the Alabama fans followed suit, stating Nick Saban would never run a HUNH concept mixed with principles of gimmick offenses?

I remember.

BTW, he was smart to adjust.

I like to watch the spread when a team has a qb who can really make it go.

You can have a guy who is a good passer, and a so-so runner, but it works if he is willing to have 10 carries for 30 yards (that's enough to keep the defense from only playing the back).

Or you can have a good runner, and a so-so passer and make it work in a different way.

But I like variety and seeing different offenses too. Air Raid, full blown option team, pro-set, whatever you want to call what Nebraska and Syracuse (with McNabb) ran.

Now even though I like the offense, it is just wall to wall spread offenses. Some of them are basically Air Raids like Oklahoma, only they let the qb run more than Leach lets his guys.

Kinda dull now. Know the Georgia guys will get their hate on, but I like to watch Tech when that offense is clicking. A shame Johnson isn't a better recruiter, because if he could consistently recruit qb's who could actually, you know, pass they would be a lot tougher on offense.

Just because it turned out that way doesn't make it an absolute. You win, you control your own destiny, you lose you don't...we had to rely on other teams' performance to get in. Had Wisconsin beaten Ohio State in the B1G championship game, Bama would've been watching from home...had Ohio State destroyed Wisconsin in the B1G championship game (similar to how they did in '14), Bama would've been watching from home...

As for having the extra week off, I don't think that's as big of an advantage when you're already getting almost a month before you play any way...didn't help Nebraska in 2001 (lost huge to Miami in the BCSCG), nor Notre Dame in 2012 (lost huge to Bama in the BCSCG), nor Ohio State in 2016 (got destroyed/shutout in the first round of the playoffs to Clemson)...

It will cycle back eventually. A well coached team can win with any offense. You could win with an offense from the 1930s(which if you watch is probably more advanced than whats run now) if you have the right combination of players and coaching.
