About time a elite program like Florida shouldn't be playing in the dump they currently play in.

10,000 seats is silly. I would make it 5,000 but expandable and have lawn seating in the outfield. It's going to look empty most days and that's not a shot at them. Gainesville's location plus 2 major League and many minor league teams, just will make the only time that place will look full is when it's brand new or when they are hosting regionals. UGA is no different.

It's time, I wouldn't call the current stadium a dump but a bigger modern stadium was needed for the National Champs. go Gators.

That's what it is. 10,000 is how many can fit when you include things like berm seating.

Don't really understand Florida's poor baseball attendance. Gainseville is really not that close to anything that would compete with baseball. I mean you are a hour and half to JAX, 2+ hours to Orlando and Daytona Beach.
The metropolitan area population is 300K+. Add that with students and there is really no excuse why they should not average 5-6-7K per game.

No shade and hot as balls during day games

This. The stadium layout was simply not conducive to the fan experience. We also don't have a lengthy baseball history, so there isn't a large core group of fans the way some other schools have.

Well, they aren't putting 10,000 chairbacks in there.

5,000 chairbacks with bleachers and berm seating for a total of 10k capacity.

It's about right to grow the fanbase. I can't wait. It's a 2 hour drive in traffic and I'll go to more games if they can give me a bit of shade for the weekend day games.

Hot

as

Balls

Even when it's only 84 degrees you will sweat your arse off for day game because of the lack of shade and the normal humidity we Southern fellers understand.

If it gets to 90 + degrees, people start falling out.

I think the seats are heated or something.

Man I remember going to the regional game in Oxford the year we went to the CWS, my seats were directly in the sun and I had such a bad sunburn after it hurt to move

I can't imagine a stadium with no shade at all.

Stadium looks good Florida, I'll have to make sure to make a game there sometime

Weak excuse. Weekday games are at night and they could schedule the Friday and Saturday games in the evening so that Sunday would be the only day time game. With 5 SEC home + a couple of OOC weekend series, that is 6-7 day games a year out of 30+ home games.

I get it at the stadium sucks but the fan base and students really just do not care about baseball or they would be there.

With that said, I am glad that they are getting a new stadium. The SEC leads the way with great ballparks that are often nicer than the AA or AAA ballparks around the country.

Florida has become geek central. Geeks don't care for sports and baseball especially (in general).

The new stadium should inject some additional energy into the program and building it will lead to more coming at least in the beginning.

Another problem that's often overlooked is that it's challenging to tailgate on campus due to the lack of open spaces. That zaps some fan experience out of the day.

Trilled about this. The baseball stadiums of the SEC are second to none in college baseball. I'm not even sure there is a close 2nd. I would love nothing more than to see college baseball continue to grow and potentially drive NCAA change to allow more than 11.7 scholarships for a roster of 35.

PS, No need to chime in Missouri fans. Nobody cares that you don't like college baseball. Please just GTFO of our conference!
