Florida is not the eighth best team in the nation. Rankings shouldn’t come out until game two in my opinion.

And the two responses are probably true and still prove my point.

Most pre-season rankings are based on last year....can be somewhat accurate but not always

Next to preseason polls, opening weekend outcomes are the most unreliable measures of performance.

First rankings across all major polls shouldn't occur until first week of October. It creates a lot of bias.

Really only one poll matters and it don’t come out until October. Need to do away with other polls

This is true, but it would hurt the SEC the least

The Big 10 got by for years with Ohio State beating ranked Illinois/Indiana/etc. teams when absolutely nobody believed that shite

Easy way to fix it: Adjust them each week after the games are played.

It doesn't and the polls don't give a frick about people who cry anyway.

Why? The polls literally change every week. All you are doing is adding a week.

They are a decent measure.

If asked to make a poll, the majority of people in this thread crying would make the same damn predictions.

For the top five teams...maybe. For everyone else...not even close.

It doesn't
it does, and plenty of data supports it. It is a matter of confirmation bias where voters tend to interpret results in a manner that supports a pre-existing belief... e.g. their preseason poll order.

Any variety of things from pride, ego, group think, etc. weigh into their reluctance to change. But, it most certainly creates a bias.

A great example is a test where 1 group starts looking at a blurred pixelated image 30 seconds before the other group. Group 1 starts guessing immediately as the image slowly clears up. Group 2 joins in to view a less blurry image at the same 30 second point as Group 1. Group 2 guesses the correct image before Group 1 in spite of their early start in the vast majority of instances. It is a pretty simple concept where waiting to make a more informed decision without anchoring oneself to the cloudy assumptions of the lesser known is a better method for making decisions. It is the rationale behind delaying the first CFP poll.

However, the need to have top rated matchups to drive TV ratings and headlines on opening weekend and throughout Sept keeps the preseason polls, not named the CFP poll, alive.
