Few actually know the history of this inaugural game.
A Yellow Fever pandemic was sweeping through the community, and the game was almost canceled.
But both teams were determined to play, and the spirit of optimism prevailed.

1899 AMC squad
The game was played in College Station
After the game, a rambunctious LSU team tossed leather piss balloons and empty whiskey bottles at six observers who’d made the trip from Bryan.
The cadets responded in kind with fisticuffs.
One overzealous Tex even drew a sword.
A brawl ensued, and the Tigers caught the next train out of the station with a college.
Side note: The Farmers from Texas won the game handily; so the Commandant commissioned the creation of commemorative drinking tankards, etched with the final score.
And now you know the rest of the story.

I bet LSU tried to get out of that game blaming contact tracing of Yellow Fever.
Wouldn't surprise me.
Wouldn't surprise me.

1899? Pretty sure Zach Von Rosenberg was on that team.

Agree. I wonder if he had a speech impediment, as well.

It's amazing how much bigger the Aggie players were than the LSU players.

Aggies probably get their first legitimate win over LSU since joining the SEC. The 74-72 game was as rigged as the 2020 election.

I’ll admit I chuckled

Agee had to beat LSU and the referees that night

I heard the aggies embroidered the score of that contest on the 1900 official stadium concession cups, only to be manhandled by the Tigers. History repeats itself.

I imagine the guy in the L shirt toward the far right of the aTm pic was the spoiled, lazy rich kid. He is fat as frick for 1899
