ESPN just said the FBI was involved because it was a possible extortion case.
That's a whole new level.

Cecil Newton will end up in jail when all is said and done.

I was thinking Kenny Rogers was trying to extort the Newton's.

Pardon my ignorance on the situation, but who extorted who?

What constitutes extortion in this case?

That might get Cecil some time in federal prison. Not federal "pound me in the arse" prison, but one of those other prisons.

The Newton tribe may well have tried to blackmail MSU.

"During these conjugal visits, you can have sex with women?"
"Ok, I'll do it!"

eh, maybe they are trying to twist it somehow into extortion since whoever got him definitely stood to profit from having his services. not sure if any of this could be remotely accurate and just wildly speculating...since NYPD Blue got cancelled I really havent watched any cop shows on tv.

Ken Rogers extorting Bell/Bond/MSU

if thats proven, Cam is done at AU. We've already learned its against NCAA rules for anyone to solicit cash on behalf of a recruit with or without the recruits knowledge.
Both Cecil and Rogers appear to have done this.

So Kenny Rogers told Cecil to tell Cam to sign with Auburn. Got it.

No.... Rogers was acting on his own when soliciting Bell for money. Rogers used his connection with Cecil (when he left UF) to try to pull money

This bad, but not for AU.

so what power and influence did Rogers have to facilitate the extortion of money from MSU?
Posted on 11/12/10 at 10:44 am to Bubba Bexley
Is there a link or was this on Radio/TV?
Posted on 11/12/10 at 10:45 am to lowspark12
So how do you explain John Bond and two MSU coaches knowing about this?

This is just a prelim theory, but when I hear "extortion", it makes me think that Ken Rogers was trying to extort money from the Newton's to keep quiet about discussions that they had about $$.
Now, that does NOT mean those discussions actually happened... it would jus mean that Rogers said "pay me or I will announce that you guys were trying to get money from MSU". Newton's tell him to pound sand. He tells a story (true or not) about the Newton's trying to get paid.
Extortion, but no pay for play!!
