Fake sliding banned

I got this from the Bama board. Good rule but needs to be reviewable so they don't take a touchdown away because they thought a player faked it when he didn't. I can see officials screwing this up royally.
The NCAA didn't waste any time killing it. It'll be ruled at the spot of where it began. No link, but here's the rule.
quote:
> Ball Declared Dead – Rule 4-1-3
>Play #1: 3/10 @ B-40. QB A12 takes the snap and rolls out to the right. Finding no
receiver open, A12 turns up field and runs. After making the line to gain, A12 breaks stride
as if he is going to slide feet first at the B-27, stays upright and runs for a touchdown.
>RULING: The live ball becomes dead at the point where A12 simulates or fakes as if he will
begin a feet-first slide. An official shall sound their whistle and declare the ball dead. Team
A will have 1/10 @ B-27.
>Any time a ball carrier begins, simulates, or fakes a feet-first slide, the ball should be
declared dead by the on field officials at that point. The intent of the rule is player safety,
and the objective is to give a ball carrier an option to end the play by sliding feet first and to
avoid contact. To allow the ball carrier to fake a slide would compromise the defense that
is being instructed to let up when the ball carrier slides feet first. A fake slide will not be
considered reviewable under Rule 12-3-3 – Dead Ball and Loose Ball

It’s a good rule. There are currently rules that force defenses to ease up in order to protect ball carriers. The ball carriers should not be allowed to abuse those rules. If they were, defenders should be allowed to tee off on them.

I definitely agree with the rule. That was bush league what Pickett did. But I think it should also be reviewed in the booth so they don't take away a critical first down or touchdown because they misinterpreted a player's body language.

I don't think that's going to be an issue. Before Pickett I never saw anything remotely close to a 'fake slide.'

This.
If a QB does slide and the defender launches himself at that same moment the Pitt QB pulled up then it would have been a penalty.

Now do fake injuries

How many refs will need to be licensed physicians and who has to foot the bill for MRI machines on every sideline?

They can help by requiring the said "injured" player to remain out the entire series

If it's within 5 minutes in the half. ^^^

so incentivize people to take cheap shots at opposing star players. Gotcha.

Is that your response on the series too? If so, I bet you were praising your team for slowing the flow in the UT game

It's a good rule but I think they should tack on a Delay of Game penalty.

Faking injuries should be next

The big question is how many teams will this screw over when a QB makes a hard cut that looks to be a slide?
I agree something should be done, but they usually never get anything right.

The speed in which they fixed this sliding issue, shows they could do it. They haven’t yet so they probably never will. Should just make it to where the person faking has to sit out for the rest of the series or a time out is called.

Simple. Player has to sit out the rest of the drive. Players want to play. This won't completely eliminate the fake injuries but it will cut them down significantly.

You can always tell who the people are who are fans of teams who must bend the rules in order to have the appearance of being competitive.

Bingo. This is why it should be reviewed in the booth.
