With the new NIL money for athletes, Mississippi State and at least a few other schools will easily match your scholarship money.
It costs $840,000 a year to fund 35 baseball scholarships at MSU's $24k cost of attendance. We can easily raise that much, even if the university is not involved.
LSU, Arkansas, OM, A&M, and maybe USC will also be able to fund their baseball team with NIL. Plus a few others outside of the SEC. Several other schools' fans CAN afford it, but likely won't spend it on baseball.
That's not even counting the new Supreme Court ruling, which may clear the way for the schools to fully fund their baseball rosters with "educational benefits". The above mentioned SEC schools and Florida/Tennessee/Alabama/Auburn/maybe all the SEC absolutely will do that if allowed. In addition, some wealthy schools that kind of like baseball may fund their teams that way, such as Michigan.

A&M literally may not have any of the same players next year. The portal is going to allow us to be competitive in year one with the new coach while he builds his team in recruiting.
Cannot wait!
Cannot wait!

I'm sure Ward's and Moo U athletes will form a great partnership.

I might be wildly misunderstanding the concept, but wouldn't NIL just help compensate players on the backend as opposed to shoring up the scholarship issue? If player X can get $24k per year via NIL to offset his tuition at State, he'd be able to get NIL money at Vandy and not have to worry about the scholarship.
The reason schools like Vandy (and Michigan presently, if I'm not mistaken) are able to cling to this scholarship advantage is because their policy is in place for the entire student body as opposed to just athletes.

Schools won't pay kids, businesses will.
NIL will not be the game changer everyone thinks it is. Only very marketable football and basketball players will make anything.
Who wants a baseball player when they can have the star QB promote their businesses?
Unless you are a QB, RB, WR or basketball player, don't look for much money with the NIL.
Players like Tebow, Tua, Lawrence would have made quite a bit.

It won't help with recruiting but it will give a few guys some cash. Tim Elko could have retired after hitting those two grand slammies with a torn ACL in one weekend.

But won't Vandy players also get NIL on top of the huge financial need scholarship
They will still come out ahead

I love Ward’s chili burgers and root beers. There’s still a Ward’s in Bay Springs, MS.

Thanks for the tip! I’m so hitting that one up on my next trip to Meridian.

You keep saying it’s an advantage but when it costs 73k per year to go to Vanderbilt, it really just helps to level the playing field. But, go ahead believe whatever you want. Also, think about this, players like Kumar Rocker and Jack Leiter are paying more to go to Vanderbilt than they would have to go to Miss State. Their families would rather pay 1-3 times as much to send them to Vanderbilt. That’s what you guys are up against. They just don’t want to play for you. I know it sucks and you need to find excuses to wrap your head around it.

NIL will be dominated by hot sports chicks with impressive cleavage.

Alright. This is what I clicked for. Some Vandy/MSU trolling.
