Eli Gold, the voice of Alabama football since 1988, will be sidelined w/health issues to begin the 2022 season. Chris Stewart, who anchors the Tide’s football broadcast & handles play-by-play duties for Bama's basketball & baseball teams, will fill in for Gold in his absence

I hate to hear that about Eli. Prayers out for him that his health issues improve. Chris Stewart is fantastic, though, so there won't be any drop-off in the quality of the broadcast.

Prayers for Eli. He is the last of an era of broadcasters who brought life to SEC Football games before every game was on TV. Now people just turn on the TV.

He missed a game last year or the year before for the first time ever. His health has been waffling a tad the last few years or so and you can tell as he hasn't been 100% for a while.

Well said, thank you.
Looked him up and was surprised to see that he's only 68. It seems like he's been in and out of poor health for a while now.

Stewart also has had some health issues.

His voice is the most iconic sounding voice. Yes, of course I'm a diehard bama fan but there has always been a good many bama fans that haven't always cared for his sound. I always did. His voice and excitement and announcing is timeless.
Get back at it, Eli! You can't quit on us just yet.

Most overrated radio guy in CFB history
Good radio voice, but overwhelming mediocre in every other aspect of his job

This morning on Fox News they were talking about Vin Scully passing away and how he had one of the best voices and calls in the game.
Then they said that other iconic voices were Eli Gold and Larry Munson.
Great well soon!!

Best wishes to Eli. I still can remember hearing Doug Layton and John Forney.

The SEC has lost some great voices recently. The retirement of Jim Hawthorne at LSU and the tragic death of Rod Bramlett at Auburn being two recent examples

Hate to hear that. Not a Bama fan but I do like listening to some of the games that he's called. Legend for sure

Eli is definitely one of the GOAT. How old is he now?

I wish him well and hope he fully recovers. With that said, I'm not a big fan and his play by play leaves something desired; like accurate down and distance. He's good though if want to know the exact color of the opposing team's "football shoes".
