The SEC had 6 of the remaining 16 teams.

Why are all 6 playing each other?

Sorry if it’s a stupid question or if already discussed.

LSU is the Bama/Kentucky of Baseball.

That's really all that matters

So the easy answer is that it all comes down to seeding which is based on a committee’s evaluation of resumes.

The more involved answer is that the seeding is also influenced by certain states that interject ridiculous political happenstance into their college athletics programs, won’t allow those programs to travel to states that don’t adhere to some silly notion of identifying as the opposite sex.

The conspiracy answer also has to do with Ray Tanner who leads the selection committee feeling pressure after LSU and Florida had themselves an all SEC final series in Omaha last year. This is the suspected reason Kentucky got left out of the tournament entirely and why all 6 teams wound up playing each other in Supers. Consider as well that had a team like UGA actually won its regional (ugh) and beaten Texas Tech, we would be playing the UF/Auburn winner first thing in Omaha.

You'll never be able to prove that bracket was rigged on purpose but there is some circumstantial evidence out there to suggest as much.

Lol...

Or it's just the way the bracket worked out as #2 seeds aren't supposed to win regionals

the ncaa decided it was best guaranteeing 3 SEC teams in Omaha than a distince possibility of 5 or 6. it's about TV revenues and stuff.

Oh and they will stack the 3 in Omaha to lessen the odds of an SEC vs SEC final like last year.

the fact is the SEC has more top teams than any two or three conferences combined. only the ACC is any good. They want butts in the stands and TV audiences so they give teams in each region as good of a shot as possible.

edited to add that the last thing they want is tenn. tech and Stetson in Omaha. some regionals were a LOT easier than others and that was designed to make the Supers easier for some.

Yeah you are wrong

Did some digging on this. One reason many West Coast schools are grouped together.

* California public schools could not go to regionals in Texas, North Carolina and Mississippi.

* Washington public schools could not go to North Carolina or Mississippi.

Those were two factors.

Ross,
So what would these public schools in CA and WA do if Nebraska had a law that is opposed as they oppose MS, TX, and NC laws?
Would the teams just not go to Omaha?

Excellent question

I think the whole thing is stupid beyond words personally. These athletic departments could basically fund their own travel without use of state funds so the political grandstanding which to me places the student athletes as pawns in a political game is nauseating to me.

By my count the only schools affected by that is Cal State Fullerton and Washington. Since the law only applies to state schools, UCLA would likely be exempt since their athletic department is privately funded. Not to mention these schools would all likely be able to obtain an exemption to travel for the postseason to these states.

He did his job, kept Clemson out of Omaha. The rest of us are just having to pay the price for that.
