Former five-star prospect and LSU tight end Arik Gilbert was back at LSU recently to meet with head coach Ed Orgeron, Orgeron confirmed on his Zoom press conference. After backing off his pledge to transfer to Florida in late February, the former blue chip recruit of the 2020 class met with Orgeron.

quote:

"We had a very good meeting," Orgeron told reporters Tuesday night. "There's been no decisions been made. He was happy. Everybody was happy to see him. We checked with compliance to make sure that everything that he was doing was on the up and up when he come meet him and he could come talk to us.
"He left. He hadn't made a decision yet, hadn't told us anything yet. I think it's still up in the air, but it was a very positive day when he came."

Because he's a 5 star freak.

I don't like it but talent privilege is a hell of a thing.

I’m so tired of this guy.

I’m not saying I won’t be happy he’s in our team and not Florida’s and I won’t be happy to see him ball out, but I honestly don’t care where he ends up anymore.

about who's future at LSU? Not sure there should be confidence in either being at LSU in a year from now.

It sounds like Gilbert realized the only place he can play D1 college football is LSU because of his grades.

This is rich after all the posts by Tiger fans about how dumb he was and how his grades were a huge issue.

Guess he'll find a way to work it out, right guys?

Don't talk to me or Eddie Lacy ever again.

This story has multiple levels of crazy surrounding it...

1) Gilbert- not really sure what happened. I don't think any of us are. Best I can figure, he got hit with a strong case of 'homesick freshman' -itis, which happens to some kids in every class. Got compounded with the Covid mania, which may have caused him to temporarily lose his fricking mind.
I mean, he's a big strong dude so we don't think that way, but he's also just a young kid- lots of people melted down about all the changes. He wouldn't be the only one to do so.

We'll just have to see how he seems to be, wherever he lands.

2) Talk of Ed O not being around- that's way off base.
The current facts are that there's a giant shitstorm hovering around LSU, but 99% or more is aimed at someone OTHER than O.
Most of the mess is directed at Miles, who is gone.
A fair bit of the other noise is directed at Wade, who seems to have weathered it.
The Guice stuff is Guice and the AD office, for the most part... Alleva is gone, Guice is gone. O seems to have been a relay to the AD, which is what you expect any coach to be.
The other internal lawsuit now being brought, that's going at the AD again; and again, we now have Woodward instead of Alleva.
The hospital funds scandal was external, and linked more to the old staff, all of which are gone, as well as the booster network.

In short, O himself is coming through pretty clean, but the overall program and the Athletic Department seems under fire.
It sounds like O is in more of a position to move on himself to avoid trouble (if need be), rather than get fired because of it.
It might be in the University's best interests to keep him around to help hold things together, for now.
