Will he have to sit out for the year or will be able to use the "closer to home" loophole to be immediately eligible (if it still exists)?

Can't say that I'm surprised. Hope he does well out there.

I wish he didn't have to sit out a year. Maybe he'll get one of those "closer to home" waivers. The NCAA is pretty inconsistent on awarding those, but maybe. Either way he has a redshirt year available.

Almost certainly will have to sit out. That loophole typically is conditional on returning home due to a family hardship of some sort. This is based on playing time and therefore wouldn't qualify for a waiver.

They have not even allowed it for hardships the last few years. They have really tightened that up.

good move for both parties. He'll sit next year, and take over once Browning graduates.

He handled the situation very well considering. I know he must have died a little every day.
I hope he does very, very well.

If he was smart, he'd stay at UGA taking a redshirt year while continuing to practice, learn, and get scout team work, and graduate early, then transfer unrestricted with two more years of eligibility.

So, he's hoping his first game is in Atlanta versus Auburn next season?
