I would think that SAT and ACT play more of a role. Not all schools have GPA's on that kind of level. At least they didn't when I was in school. I don't know why some schools want grading scales above perfect, I guess it's just for "advanced classes". Our advanced classes were still included in a 4.0 scale...

There is actually a girl from my hometown that is a Senior in high school that made an 18 on her ACT and obviously did not get accepted to Bama. Her father is very rich though, and he apparently talked to a few people and she's been accepted.

Yeah, same here. I went to one of the best high schools in Arkansas, where all the teachers have at least a Master's degree in their teaching area, and 1/4 have a PhD. Most classes were taught at a college level and offered concurrent college credit, but we were graded on a 4.0 scale. It was a disadvantage for us when we applied for scholarships because a lot of scholarships allow students to use their weighted GPAs (meaning some students could get over a 4.0 while none of us at our high school could). I nearly missed out on a big scholarship because of that. We had to petition the Arkansas Department of Higher Education and our state rep to make an exemption.

Not a single student in my class graduated with a 4.0.

How about you idiots pick your college based on which one has the best program you are interested in studying instead of having a pissing match about how all the schools except Vandy have piss poor standards for letting people in. 70-80% of the undergrads that go to any of these colleges don't belong there and deserve to go to a JC.

Probably true...
I went to an "easy" school, but will have a higher degree when all is said and done than the majority of people that go to "hard" schools. Like you said, it's a stupid pissing match...

Amazing that Tennessee is so much harder to get into than Alabama considering Bama has been ranked WAY ahead of UT in USNWR rankings ever since the rankings were invented.

Nice try though!

Higher degree is where it's at, all an undergrad proves is your ability to learn new things. Grad means you actually know what it is you went to learn.

It depends sometimes, especially in the business world where a professional license is not required. A lot of employers now look down on post-graduate degrees as a sign of an unmotivated person who didn't want to leave college or lacked confidence in their abilities after earning the BS.

Wow, those employees might not want someone with a higher degree working for them is all I can come up with...

Business is a different world. That's not academics, that's a fraternity.

You can get into Arkansas with a 3.0 GPA or a 20 ACT.

Acceptance rate is around 60%.

Have no idea how that ranks in the SEC.

This is why some business schools are making it a requirement for prospective students to get a job after undergrad and get a few years of working experience before you are accepted. That was a req to get my MBA, and I think it's a requirement to get your Executive MBA at LSU. But I didn't get my grad degree from LSU so I don't know for certain.

Not to hi jack this thread but how do SEC schools rank as far as tuition cost? I wonder if the higher requirements match up with higher tuition almost as if to restrict additional enrollment.
