I just looked it up, and Forbes actually ranks Alabama below South Carolina and LSU. I always assumed Bama was far more superior
USC -284
LSU -323
Alabama -336

US News & World Report has Alabama just behind Vanderbilt, Florida, and Georgia, among SEC schools. Top fifty among public schools, and top 100 regardless.

LINK? Not saying you're wrong, just want to see the rest of the rankings

I will say that UA and AU have done pretty good for themselves, relative to the schools around us that have education lotteries and gambling interests backing them. 2 top 40 public schools in a poor state isn't bad imho

Those Forbes rankings are terrible. Their methodology doesn't make any sense.

THIS. They have Auburn ranked #434 and Tennessee ranked #453. These same rankings had Georgia Tech of all schools ranked outside the Top 400 recently. That's ridiculous.

FWIW,
U.S. News and World Report
World's Top 400 colleges and universities:
Georgia #347
Kentucky #350
Alabama #351
Tennessee #385
Vandy was in the low 100s and Florida in the mid 200s btw. No other SEC schools ranked.

Those rankings are awful. Half the top 100 ar schools from the UK no one has ever heard of. No way in hell London has that many top wrldwide schools. And no way the University of Glasgow is a better school than UVA, one of America's top schools, public or private. I didn't even see the Indian Institute of Technology listed and its one of the best engineering schools in the world.

Vandy is obviously the hardest, with UGA and UF a few notches below.
Vandy is BY FAR the hardest. There is not even a close second in the SEC. While UF and UGA are very good public universities (UGA has gotten much more competitive thanks to the HOPE scholarship), it is very naive to say these schools are "a few notches" below Vandy.

does anyone know what the admission requirements are for UF vs. vandy (incoming freshmen)?
the average UF frosh has something like a 4.3 gpa. can't get much tougher than that....

Arkansas's acceptance rate last year was 56%, and in 2007 the average ACT score for incoming freshmen was 25. I couldn't find any numbers more recent than that.
I would expect us to be somewhere in the middle of the pack in the SEC. After Vandy, UGA, and UF, the schools are in the average/above average category.

obviously vandy is more difficult to get into, but how much higher of a gpa can one get?
