Since 2008, LSU has had 41 players declare early for the draft. 17 of those have been drafted in the 1st or 2nd rounds.

Bama has had 31 players declare early. 24 of those have been drafted in the 1st or 2nd rounds.

Thanks to CrimsonD247 for the stat breakdown.

What’s the deal with so many LSU players declaring early? Are there people close to the program who give them poor advice? Is it a culture issue?

It would be more helpful to know what the info looks like for rounds 3-4 as well. Plenty of players make a wise decision to go pro and get drafted in rounds 3-4 (even 5-7, but once you get to rounds 6&7 you are usually in the hazardous area where you could get undrafted).

Maybe Bama just has higher end talent going rounds 1-2, which would make sense given they get all the best players, and Bama/LSU are close in % of players making dumb decisions - ie going pro early when they aren’t locks to get drafted

How many times has there been a wise decision to leave early and be drafted in mid to late rounds? Most of those guys are potentially costing themselves tens of millions of dollars by leaving early - assuming they’re returning starters.

Was that a recruiting tactic?

If you're a running back, a player who has graduated, a player with a history of injuries, a player who has maxed out his ceiling, or a combination of one or more of those.

That and, as someone else pointed out, Miles used that as his recruiting pitch and I don't believe pushed players very hard to stay who should have

This year, 2 of the 3 who are leaving early will be 1st round picks. The third has had a history of injuries and is trying to squeeze whatever football he has left and get paid doing it.

The amount of money Bama is paying guys means they make more money coming back for a fourth year than taking a rookie contract

Living in Baton Rouge is the equivalent of living in a septic tank in the middle of a toxic waste dump. You would flee that shithole also

You tried to attend school in that "shithole" but got rejected. Now you spend your life lying about attending other schools and obsessing about LSU. Congrats.

Kids can go anywhere in the SEC and make it to the NFL.
